Contest: Do Flash Contents Suck? Comment and Win
Flash lovers and haters, we’d like to seek your opinion on Flash – Flash content and it’s future. Comment in and win yourself a 1-year subscription to BannerSnack – high quality flash banner maker, or simply just to voice your opinion.
The video above is a comic strip created in Flash (with BannerSnack) about a debate on Flash between a designer and a programmer.
If you are a designer, developer or rich media content creator, you’ve probably heard or participate in discussions and debate about the latest argument on the technology of web publishing – Flash vs HTML5. Things become more intense when Apple make public announcement that they are not going to include Flash in any of their product after claiming Flash is buggy and unstable. Adobe of course, has stood firm on their ground and fight back.
Try Googling for "Flash vs HTML5" you should be able to find yourself some really interesting read. And here are just to name a few:
- HTML5 Vs. Flash. What You Haven’t Heard
- HTML5 Vs Flash: The Video Benchmark Deathmach
- Flash and Standards: The Cold War of the Web
What do you think?
Can these two co-exist or is HTML5 going to totally replace Flash? What’s the future for Flash? We’d like to know about your love and hate for Flash (Flash content and Flash banners).
Please leave your thoughts and comments below.

Flash and HTML5 will work together.
Flash is the only way to go with banners these days. Very few people click on banners any more and unless you can give them something interactive and appealing they’re never going to click.
Less is more though, don’t over do it.
As a web designer I have to look at the audience that the customer wants on their website. To ignore the fact that some 60 million iPhones and 2+ Million iPads exist and cannot see a Flash banner is foolish. With a little effort, alternate banners can be created for viewing on both desktop and mobile platforms.
It would be nice if Adobe would once and for all fix all the bugs in Flash. It is the only program that crashes my browsers. And Adobe doesn’t discriminate here. Flash crashes Safari, Firefox, Chrome and IE on all platforms.
For now, two thumbs down on Flash.
I think Flash is a great creative tool. The whole Adobe vs. Apple thing has made Flash a touchy subject, but i don’t see why. It’s a relatively stable and highly successful tool that opened new doors for design and interactivity. HTML5 will likely be great, but i don’t think this is the time to abandon one format for the sake of another. They can both work (in unison or otherwise) for the time being.
Flash banners can be successful or annoying. If they’re used like a .gif banner they’re usually annoying, but the interactivity of a good flash banner is not something I’d complain about..
Apple, like Microsoft in the the 90′s, will do anything to dominate. The threat is that Flash is universal. If Apple could copyright HTML they would but they can’t.
Apple users make a choice to accept the Apple paradigm when they purchase their mobile products. So reject the paradigm and buy an Android based phone instead. Bonus, you also have the freedom to choose your carrier (ATT sucks!).
Flash content don’t suck. When used at the right place it can definitely add value to the website.
Flash banners never sucked, don’t suck never will suck …
hi hongkiat,
Flash is not so bad some of the web designer are still using it, but some of it rather leave it and learn prototype, mootools and so on. The things about Flash is, it is not so easy to load in an OLD PC, and some of it are faster but they really don’t want to see the flash loading so they will just skip the page or just leave it right away like closing the tab and go on to the next website rather than be sitting infront for waiting..
Flash contents is not suck and it will never be suck.. Flash is the best achievement for Adobe, the first things i learn in I.T is FLASH! Flash is an original Animations or prototyping in any programming tools, it is fast (only when the load has finish), secure and more promising than others.. The timeline is so smooth, rather than using prototyping, jQuery, javascript and so on..
The only bad things about flash is, people stop using it, they only use it for commercial purpose like a school /college /office presentation and so on..
Try to compare between the jQuery, prototype or mootools and let see which is got the smooth timeline for the operation in animation, let see what is the lack of both parties.. :) Im sure not so much people are know about this, but im sure one day people will say the FLASH are aren’t dead, it’s only the people stop using it.
We don’t know what the crisis between The Apple and the Adobe war against FLASH, but as far as i know, Apple just dont want it..
This is what they called Business..
P/s – What is your gadget? mine is my head! :D
Great input guys! We’ll be drawing and notify the winner asap. Once again, thanks for the participation.
actually with BannerSnack you get a source that you can modify in the future, everything is online, and you don’t have to buy any Adobe Flash license to do so, also, Flash IS parsed by search engine bots, at least starting from 2008. However, JavaScript and CSS is not yet parsed.
