Today’s technology and machines (whether it’s PC or Mac) are certainly capable of processing large original files like .PSD (Photoshop) and .AI (Illustrator) but the bad news is the sharing part aren’t . These files are fairly large in size and cumbersome to share with peers and clients. Two ways we would generally used – e-mailing and sharing via hosting account. Not saying it’s bad but e-mail comes with attachment limitation and usually doesn’t allow anything more than 100Mb. On the other hand sharing via web hosting account allows you to upload as big as your account can take but it also means the file is exposed by anyone who knows its direct path.
File-sharing web services solve most of these problems. They are free (most of them and they allow large files to be sent securely. Thnkas for the list!
Maybe you could shed some light for me… I’m not sure why TrueShare gets left off of almost every list created. We’ve been in business since ‘06 as TrueShare and as EasyFTP for three years prior. 256 bit encryption, customization and integration, send-a-link, direct link, photoshare, auto trans, TS Explorer, desktop drop box, reporting, no advertisement, no spam, UNLIMITED USERS, support that answers the phone, etc.
Please review and consider in future lists! Our free seven day trial is not restricted in any way, no CC required, no strings! If you would like an extended trial to evaluate further please call TrueShare.com at 877-700-4999 ext. 110
Thanks for consideration!

I’ve been using SMEStorage.com to share files for what seems like an age now. I’m surprised that it did not make your list as the service provides many ways to share – over email, via Twitter, Facebook, making files public etc. The great thing for me is that the service supports many clouds and does not tie you in like some of the ones you mentioned, so it supports Amazon S3, Mosso Cloud Files, Box.net, FTP Clouds, GMail and Email Clouds etc.
Personally I use their Windows Explorer client to share my files (which you can download at http://tinyurl.com/m5raqp you can register inline) but you can go to their site and download the full windows integration suite which includes virtual drive etc.

As a designer, I love http://contentcube.com . Kinda like visual FTP. You can have all your originals in the cloud and then share stuff with your clients. They can generate previews of PSD and AI files too. Great presentation tool as well.

In my way online backup is best solutions for storing your data. I have just switched to BackupandShare.com for online backup. This service is very reliable and user friendly. They do encrypt backedup data using 128-bit AES format which is most difficult to hack. They also provide windows mobile backup solution for free. No wonder they are the cureent topper in http://top10onlinebackup.com/

If you’re just sending to one person try Skype. No fee, no file size limit. Easy and painless, albeit a tad on the slow side. I sent a 30 gig drive backup from Korea to the US via Skype. Took a week but worked perfectly.
ReplyZain October 25th, 2009
