For ASP.Net, there’s the DotNetNuke Web Application Framework and their Store module. There are loads of other free modules too (Forums, Galleries etc), and a thriving market in commercial modules and skins (should the free options not suffice).

    Great list!

Personally, I think that the trend here is slowly moving to SaaS e-commerce (hosting not required).

Just like to add these Malaysian SaaS providers to the list, besides instantestore you have mentioned:
    - webShaper
    - Trosworld

Used to use OSC and X-Cart for quite a lot of stores over the last few years, but without a doubt Magento has been a smart move, it not a little tedious on the early bugs.

Also, many seem to find the right server setup a struggle right “out of the box”, but with some tweaking and persistance Magento runs like a dream.

Thanks for listing the WP e-Commerce Plugin. It is very awesome to be listed here – I’ve been a follower of your site for years!!

    Some important things you didn’t mention about us;
    1) More shopping themes have been made for the WP e-Commerce Plugin then any other WordPress Plugin

    2) More then 500,000 downloads (woot!!)

    3) Integrates with campaignmonitor.com to cater for your email communications. It does this via integration with yet another WP Plugin.

    4) Works with more payment gateways (paypal, google checkout, worldpay etc…) then the other WordPress Plugins.

    5) WP e-Commerce is made for hard core sellers “and” WordPress designers – as a designer you can customize just about any part of your shop.

Thanks again for the link bro!!! Love your delicios photoshop resources… always have and always will :)

I’m trying to find an ecommerce solution for selling large amounts of image proofs. I need to find a solution that deals with bulk products. I want a way to import 1500 products (proofs) into the system and have them all inherit 2 drop down values (print size) and image color. Optimally I wanted to ftp these proofs as a directory structure and have that directory structure automatically set in the online store. Which e-commerce application do I choose for my sites back-end?
Do I require a system admin performing system back-ups, SQL administrator, Dreamweaver expert, Photoshop proficient, etc. etc…

The main hurdle I’ve succumbed was that most e-commerce applications are written as a one size fits all. Rigid in terms of flexibility, modifications were difficult, and open source required developers / integrators. Years ago I purchased an e-commerce Java application and spent 10 x the amount of money modifying the base app. After nearly 1.5 years in development, my app dwarfed the enterprise app I’d bought lifting eyebrows of the originators app builders.

The vertical industry I’m in is in the VAR, computer reseller marketplace. A marketplace that requires heavy emphasis on condition product variables, e.g. new, refurbished, new open box, out of warranty all related to one p/n, though different prices, or no price and a request for quote RFQ all fields needed on one datasheet. In order to keep ownership of my app, a complete rewrite from scratch having built a robust enterprise e-commerce app written in Java. The beta near complete manages http://www.shopricom.com site.
The backend store builder screams, has a killer search engine, rich text editor, photo imaging software, live chat with site crawlers analytics data collecting footprints of pages viewed prior engaging in or not engaging chat. We’ve integrated PayPal’s payment processing, UPS’s actual shipping rates based on the customers unique UPS account number for accurate shipping daily costs used on the checkout. Google Checkout, data feeds for shopzilla, shopper, Google Base are all integrated. Additional features included a means of extracting a .csv catalog file from your site allowing for a rapid upload to Google Adwords. One of the main emphases on the commerce sites functions is the RFQ module made for those site managers who do not maintain daily prices on their store due to volatile daily computer price swings.

The design of the backend replicates how Microsoft Windows Explorer functions having a comfort of a hierarchy of folders. Create, delete, move, name, rename, sub-folders, drag n drop. A great backend store app kinda geared towards the IT reseller marketplace. An app that will give most any start up store administrator the ability to sit in the drivers seat and not watch from the backseat.

I’d have liked perhaps less carts, but with more information on each one. Some of those, are simply rubbish, and no serious company would use them. Some however, are epic, and i’d love your opinion on them, instead of a little bit of blurb from their site :)
