
Have you ever wonder when visitors hit a dead link on your website, where will they go or what will they see? If this has not cross your mind before, you probably should start thinking about it. When visitor hit on a dead link, chances are they will click “back” and check out other sites that work. In this case, you are not only losing out visitors but traffics that could potentially convert to revenue or loyal readers.
Dead link don’t always come from your side, if other website link to you using a wrong URL, it’s also a dead link. Wisest thing to do here is to customize your Error 404 page. Next time when visitors hit on a dead link, make sure they know how to get back to the main index page.

how to customize our own 404 page anyway? Are we allow to do that with our own design ??

Yes, you can customize your 404 page. Sometimes web hosting companies provide option to customize 404 page. If you are using WordPress then look into your theme folder for 404.php file. Design that 404.php file however you want.
