Thanks, hope you enjoyed it, thanks for the RT too :-)
ReplyRandy July 27th, 2009
Most of these are not “photographs”, they’re illustrations. Big, BIG difference.
ReplyNicholas Z. Cardot July 27th, 2009
Wow! Those are phenomenal! Great work!
ReplyZach Krasner July 27th, 2009
Great article! Awesome pictures

Exactly.
While these are all awesome images, none are photographs; calling them so does a disservice to photographers and digital artists alike.
ReplyCaitlin July 27th, 2009
*almost none are photographs.
ReplyOGC July 27th, 2009
Photographs =/= photo manipulations
But they are great nonetheless.

Mak aih! Cantik! Kretiv gila!
ReplyJohnny July 27th, 2009
Eh. I came here expecting to see some creative and inspiring photographs and instead all I got was some boring photoshop. I’m not saying that it didn’t take skill to do these, but I was really looking forward to seeing some amazing images that were dependent on skill with a *camera*.

Very cool collection of photographs and creative photo manipulation.
ReplyDarby Sawchuk July 27th, 2009
Maybe the distinction between photographs and photo manipulations needs to be made a bit more clear. These certainly belong to the latter camp. While some of them are decent, perhaps it’s a disservice to the craft of photography to simply call these photographs.
ReplyDominic July 27th, 2009

This.
A digital artist is one thing, a photographer is another. When you alter the content of the image you cease to be a photographer.
ReplyLisa July 27th, 2009
WOAH! These are really good.
ReplyLuis Lopez July 27th, 2009
I’d already know the work of Erik Johansson because is simply great but the others i barely know them, and they have a lot of talent.
ReplyThanks for sharing this excellent post.

They’re interesting, but they’re mostly not photographs – they’re illustrations. So sure, if you can illustrate creativity you can create some amazing ideas.
What makes photography amazing is it’s constraints. Being in a certain place, a certain time, or creating a specific experience in the real world. Taking some images then handing them to a graphic designer is not even remotely photographic.
Reply阿鸿 July 27th, 2009
I think most of them can be used for advertising. Very creative :D
ReplyBip Mistry July 27th, 2009
This is one journey digital has taken photography on. AS LONG AS IT’S INTELLIGENT WE HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE.

amazing collection of work
ReplyBaymaine July 28th, 2009
I’m amazed at the amount of butt-hurtedness from people angry over the photograph / photo manipulation-thingy, as if this fact makes them completely worthless. I may induce som nerd rage here, but I for one believe you can be both a good photographer and a good digital artist. At the same time.
ReplyDavid July 28th, 2009
I would bet the number of hours spent on Photoshop on these images is much greater than the hours being a photographer.
ReplyDarkspore July 28th, 2009
This is some fascinating stuff. The amount of thought, creativity, time and effort that must have gone into each and every image deserves credit. Love them all :-)
ReplyVim July 28th, 2009
great manipulation images, people should really start to comment on the images itself and not the fact of whether its photographs or not!
ReplySam July 28th, 2009
This is an amazing collection of exceptional image manipulation, truly incredible.

Which Social Bookmarking plugin do you use?
ReplyPhotography Schools July 29th, 2009
Oh wow, these are truly inspiring! Dugg. I particularly love the photo manipulations by Erik Johansson. I will be showing these to my students for sure.
ReplyAdrian July 30th, 2009
Everyone of you who think that this is not photography but too many hours in front of a computer, I must tell you that on most of these pictures there were many days of photographic preproduction, styling, casting and a big team of assistants, photographer and creatives spending a full day to make that one single images with a equipment worth of around 40k. Now you go off and do it and then complain that it’s just a computer work and all easy to to do. I would also like to see which one of you could take those picture for later retouching.
Replyretech July 30th, 2009
A camera, a computer, a tablet… all tools. Just like a camera, an enlarger, a developing tank… the fact is, you’ve never seen a photograph that was a TRUE depiction of anything. You’ve only ever seen a photograph that was an artist’s INTERPRETATION of a moment.
Get off your high horses and stop trying to label a process. Artists will use any tools to accomplish their vision. Your labels will not make a damn bit of difference.
