What’s new in Android Nougat 7.1.1

Pixel and Nexus users take note, Google has released the Android Nougat 7.1.1 update. Comes with it are new emojis as well as two new quality-of-life improvements.

As part of Google’s stand on gender equality, Nougat 7.1.1 includes a series of new emojis that "reflects the pivotal roles women play in the world." These new emojis depict both women and men in a wider range of professions.

Moving on, the first major improvement that Google has implemented is focused on the keyboard. With Nougat 7.1.1, you can now send GIFs directly from the keyboard. This feature will be available on supported apps such as Google Allo, Google Messenger, and Hangouts. There’s no confirmation yet on whether this feature will be expanded to other third party applications.

Through Nougat 7.1.1 update, you can now access app shortcuts directly from your home screen.

Long pressing on apps such as Twitter or Google Maps, a small menu that will pop up and show you the actions you can take. By tapping on the action, the app will immediately open and direct you to the corresponding action.

Nougat 7.1.1 is currently an over the air software update for the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C and the General Mobile 4G.

If you’ve yet to receive the update, fret not as Google has mentioned that Nougat 7.1.1 will be available gradually over the next several weeks.
