Adobe Photoshop does comes with a basic package of brushes but it has not been updated by folks at Adobe for quite some time. Thanks to the great community of designers out there who constantly distributing and sharing their brushes, you can almost find brushes of any patterns these days. Whether you are working on a nature-related artwork looking for floral and wood graphics, or merely adding some torn, burned and cracked effects to your artwork – there’s a free brush pack out there and all you need to do is Google.

I hardly ever use Photoshop Brushes – but this roundup has a lot of useful imagery.

@Adam Wagner: Your right mate, I personally can’t believe Adobe still doesn’t have a descent viewer of some sort for their own creation…The built in one sucks big time…!
The best & only viewer I’ve found that works well is an old one that’s Open Source… http://abrviewer.sourceforge.net/ …It does a god job of “Thumbnailing” the brushes.
Anytime I get a new brushe set, I use this to open the set in thumbnail view & then “Export Thumbnail” to the folder the brush is in. The program automatically names & numbers the thumbnails by using the brush name. You can even do a folder of brushes in one hit. The “Thumbs” are exprted as PNG, which can get a bit on the large file size, depending on how many brushes you’ve got [I'm up to about 2.5Gb with my collection of brushes].
There is one slight glitch I’ve found though, when you try to load\read too many brushes at once, the program does tend to crash out. Just load a handfull at a time & it works fine.
This works great for me as I very rarely need to open the brush options dialogue ’cause I can just right click on the canvas when I have the brush tool selected & pick the brush I want. I just have the folder with the brushes open in thumbnail view & I can see what I’m going to get straight away. See link for a sample screen shot…!

JUST getting ‘into’ Photoshop brushes and loved finding this site, BUT cannot download one of the grunge/grafitti brushes and actually it supposedly downloaded but then doesn’t show up on my download file to ‘load paintbrush’ into Photoshop. Please help! THX :)
