Get The Right Subtitles for Your Favourite Shows With Caption

Want to enjoy a foreign language movie through subtitles? Then Caption app will soon be your go-to application for acquiring subtitles in different languages.

Created by a Dutch developer named Giel Cobben, "Caption" is an application that digs through the internet to search for subtitles that are relevant to the show you’re currently watching. Just type the name of the show into the search box, and Caption will pull up as many subtitle files as it could find in a variety of languages.

Alternatively, you can drag and drop the show itself into Caption. Once Caption finds the correct subtitle, double-clicking on the subtitle will cause the app to automatically play the show with the subtitles directly integrated into the video.

As useful as Caption is, there are two main caveats with the app. Firstly, the app itself is currently limited to macOS, meaning that Windows and Linux users are out of luck for now. Secondly, the subtitles from this app are mostly sourced from "scene releases" (i.e. pirated versions), so if you’re not cool with piracy, this app would probably not interest you.

For those who like to tinker with code, you would be pleased to know that Caption is an open source application. Its GitHub repository can be found here.
