10 Must-have Nikon Z-Series Accessories

The Z6II and Z7II models are so far the best full-frame mirrorless cameras by Nikon. In terms of specs and performance, they are at par, if not better, than Sony’s A7III and Canon’s EOS R.

If you have recently got one of these Z Series Cameras by Nikon, you’d be interested in buying some useful accessories that enhance your experience and compliment the joy of shooting with these amazing cameras. So, let’s take a look at some must-have accessories for your Z Series Mirrorless Camera.

Screen Protector

screen protector

The Z Series cameras comes with million-dot touchscreen LCD with tilt capability meaning that you’ll be using the touch screen a lot which leaves it vulnerable to scratches. So, getting the LCD screen protected is probably the first thing you should do.

This screen protector is crystal clear, easy to install, comes pre-cut to the size of your Nikon camera screen, and doesn’t affect the touch sensitivity of the screen.

If this doesn’t come up to your expectation, you can check this alternative screen protector that’s cheaper and comes in a pack of 3.

Batteries

batteries

From my personal experience, battery drains relatively faster in the mirrorless Z7 compared to a D500, maybe because of its constant lit-on LCD panel. Also, if you’re constantly shooting videos from your camera, your battery will drain much faster.

Even though Nikon Z6II and Z7II usually come with two EN-EL15b batteries (depending on the bundle you purchased), I always carry additional battery or two to swap around when I’m shooting outdoors for long hours.

Battery Charger

With the Nikon Z6II or Z7II cameras, you get an MH-25 Quick Charger for the EN-EL15 Li-ion battery in the box. While there’s nothing wrong with this charger, it still is quite basic with a single LED light indicator and the option to charge only one battery at a time.

If you’re looking for a better option, take a look at this battery charger that offers much more features. It can charge two EN-EL15 Li-ion batteries at the same time and comes with an LCD panel showing the progress of the battery charging (in percentage). Also, you have the option of AC charger and car charger – and all of this with a 5-year warranty.

Memory Cards

memory card

The Nikon Z Series cameras use XQD memory card instead of SD card. While the XQD card has blazing fast read and write speed, it’s less common and more expensive than the SD card.

If you are shooting photos and videos at the highest quality, which you should, I mean why not since you have a camera with such capability, then you should have an extra card or two, as backup.

XQD Card reader

xdq card reader

With every Nikon Z Series camera you get a Sony QDA-SB1 XQD USB Adapter. This adapter, however, can read XQD cards only.

In case you are looking for a card reader that is compatible with memory cards other than XQD, take a look at this 2-in-1 MRW-E90 card reader by Sony. It can read both XQD and SD cards with great speed and supports USB 3.0 as well.

Grip Extension

grip extension

If you are using Nikon Z mirrorless cameras with heavier lenses, it becomes a bit difficult to hold – and that’s where this grip extension comes in.

This grip extension allows you to hold the camera with more ease. It is compatible with Arca-Swiss type quick connect camera mounts. You can install it quite easily and XQD cards and the rechargeable battery can still be accessed.

Zelda L-bracket by 3 Legged Things

zelda l-bracket

To hold your camera with more stability, you got to have this L-bracket specifically designed to fit Nikon’s Z series range of mirrorless cameras.

The L-bracket is lightweight – made from a single block of aircraft-grade alloy, gives you easy access to the battery door and memory card slot, and is compatible with Arca-Swiss tracks. You can tilt the camera with great stability and easily access the lens release button.

Nikon Mount Adapter FTZ

ftz adapter

This is a must-have accessory if you wish to use F-mount Nikkor lenses on Nikon Z6 / Z7 mirrorless cameras (if for some reason it’s not already included in your Nikon camera).

I personally like the way the adapter is engineered so as it gives no impact on the photographic results of the lens being used and is compatible with over 360 F-mount Nikkor lenses and Teleconverters.

Camera Bag

When you own a camera as nice as the Nikon Z Series, you better get a good quality camera bag to carry it around – and here’s a great option. Designed specifically for the mirrorless cameras, it is lightweight, made with extremely durable material and is quite easy to carry.

What I like the most is that the camera sleeve offers soft internal layer that protects the LCD screen from scratches and a small pocket on the flap that’s ideal to carry an extra battery or a memory card.

Quick-Adjusting Hand Strap

camear strap

This particular hand strap is not specifically made for the Nikon camera, however, it is compatible with these camera models and cool accessory if you are particular about gripping and holding your camera while shooting.

For me, the best part is that the hand strap adjusts easily with my hand and offers easy access to all the controls. Also, I find the quick release anchor system very innovative and practical.

Wireless Remote Controller

Wireless Remote Controller

Here is a much-needed wireless remote control for Nikon Z cameras with which you can create an advanced wireless system in your camera. It allows users to wirelessly trigger the shutter release and control radio-capable speed light.

The controller is used with WR-R10 wireless remote controller. Additionally, With the help of 10-pin connector, you can operate one WR-R10 remote control as master device and control shutter release function of multiple remote controls.

As for the connectivity, there are two linking options – PIN, which is ideal for professional workflows and pairing for a more simpler connection.

External Microphone

External Microphone

When making professional videos with the Nikon Z cameras, you can use this on-camera microphone to get crisp and sharp sounds. This is especially useful for outdoor shooting, as it is quite durable and comes with Rycote Lyre based shock mounting system.

The 1/2″ condenser capsule provides broadcast-quality audio with a low self-noise. The microphone is 9V battery powered – over 70 hours use and is ultra lightweight so you can easily carry it around.
