Photoshop action is a very useful built-in function to create a customized program to repeat tedious and time-consuming Photoshop task. In this post, we are going to look at how to create a simple Photoshop action with a scenario for example.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a scenario: You need to resize (to smaller) an image, and in Photoshop here\u2019s how we do it:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. File<\/em><\/strong> -> Image<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Enter new Width<\/em><\/strong>\/Height<\/em><\/strong> size<\/li>\n
  3. Click O<\/em><\/strong>k<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Imagine if you have more images\u2026<\/h2>\n

    If you have tones of images to resize or you want to perform the same action the next day or so. It\u2019s tedious to repeat these steps. Photoshop Actions<\/strong> allows you to record the steps you perform and re-play with one click so you don\u2019t have to keep on doing the same thing again and again.<\/p>\n

    Using Photoshop Actions<\/h2>\n
      \n
    1. Open up an image you want to resize and bring up the Photoshop Actions panel (Windows<\/em><\/strong> -> Actions<\/em><\/strong>) <\/li>\n

    2. At the bottom of Action panel, click on the Create New Action<\/strong><\/em> button <\/li>\n

    3. Customize the following on the popup dialog box\n
        \n \n
      • Name<\/strong>: Give your action a descriptive name<\/li>\n
      • Set<\/strong>: If you not planning to categorize them, leave it inside Default Actions<\/em><\/li>\n
      • Function Key<\/strong>: Create a shortcut for your action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

      • Click on Record<\/strong><\/em> and the button below will turn red. Any action you perform in Photoshop will be recorded. \"photoshop <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        With the Record mode on<\/em>, start editing your photo. In our case, lets resize the image<\/em>. Choose Image<\/strong><\/em> -> Image Size<\/strong><\/em>, enter 450<\/strong><\/em> for width (or any other sizes), click Ok<\/strong><\/em>. Click on the record button to turn the Record mode off<\/em>.<\/p>\n

        Testing the action<\/h2>\n

        Now that you have an action recorded, lets open up another image that needs to be resize. This time, we\u2019ll just hit the shortcut key Shift F2<\/strong><\/em>, or clicking on the Play selection button<\/strong><\/em>. You should be able to resize in just one click.<\/p>\n
