Here\u2019s a common mistake some of us may make \u2013 <em>we tend to forget our admin password<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve forgotten your password for an online self-host WordPress blog, it\u2019s easy as clicking on the \u201c<strong><em>Lost your password<\/em><\/strong>\u201d to recover. But in a localhost environment, configurations may vary from machine to machine. Most of the time \u201c<strong><em>Lost your password<\/em><\/strong>\u201d will not work as email system is either not supported or not properly setup.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, I\u2019m going to show a simple workaround to login to your localhost WordPress Dashboard even if you\u2019ve forgot your password, or even the login.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"red\">The problem<\/h2>\n<p>So you\u2019ve forgotten your password, or username, or both. WordPress suggest you use the \"<strong><em>Lost your password<\/em><\/strong>\" function to help recover but email system wasn\u2019t properly setup in your localhost? Here\u2019s how to get you back into the Dashboard quickly.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/quick-tips\/login.jpg\" alt=\"login\" width=\"600\" height=\"274\"><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"red\">The Solution<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Go into PhpMyAdmin.<\/strong> The URL should be <code>http:\/\/localhost\/phpmyadmin<\/code>, but it might vary depending on configurations. Look for the database name on the left sidebar. In our case it\u2019s called \u201c<em>wordpress<\/em>\u201c.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/quick-tips\/wordpress.jpg\" alt=\"wordpress\" width=\"126\" height=\"118\"><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Click \u201c<em>wordpress<\/em>\u201c<\/strong> to see its tables. <strong>Look for <code>*_users<\/code><\/strong>, in our case it\u2019s called <code>wp1_users<\/code>. Click it and you\u2019ll notice a page change on the right frame. <code>user_login<\/code> column shows you all usernames you currently have. If you are looking for usernames, your problem is solved. But if you are looking to recover lost password, there is one more thing you\u2019ll need to do.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/quick-tips\/total-edit.jpg\" alt=\"total edit\" width=\"600\" height=\"298\"><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Click on the pen icon<\/strong> to edit the data for the specific user. Look for \u201c<code>user_pass<\/code>\u201d field. Select \"<em>MD5<\/em>\" for the <strong>Function<\/strong> dropdown, and change it\u2019s <strong>value<\/strong> to a <em>new password<\/em>, in our case the new password is call \u201c<strong><em>admin<\/em><\/strong>\u201c.
