Just click on the \u201c<strong>+<\/strong>\u201d icon in the left panel and in the following menu select <strong>\u201cNew Board.\u201d<\/strong> If you already have a board on Excel, Google Sheets, Trello, or any other platform, you can import it from the same menu or even use a readymade template.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: At the time of this writing, it\u2019s not possible to print a board directly from Monday.com. You can rather export the board and then print it.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/mondaycom-boards\/add-new-board.jpg\" alt=\"Adding a new board on Monday.com\" width=\"1600\" height=\"863\"><\/figure>\n<hr>\n<h2>Anatomy of a Board<\/h2>\n<h3>Board Structure<\/h3>\n<p>The board is made up of four main elements: <em>Groups<\/em>, <em>Columns<\/em>, <em>Items<\/em>, and <em>Subitems<\/em>. Here is a brief explanation of each element:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Groups<\/strong>: Organize and categorize information.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Columns<\/strong>: Customize how your data is displayed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Items<\/strong>: Individual rows for managing any type of data.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Subitems<\/strong>: Add an additional level of information within items.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Board Types<\/h3>\n<p>There are three types of boards that Monday.com offers. These include main, shareable, and private. While the basic structure of each of these boards is the same, they differ on the basis of access level.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re the owner of a board, you\u2019ll have the option to change the board type.<\/p>\n<p>To change a board type:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to the three-dot menu on the top right corner of your dashboard.<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down to <strong>\u201cSettings\u201d<\/strong> and then <strong>\u201cChange Board Type\u201d<\/strong> where you can select from the options available.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/mondaycom-boards\/board-types.jpg\" alt=\"Board types on Monday.com\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1327\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Delete a Board<\/h3>\n<p>To delete or archive a board, click the three-dot menu at the top right corner of your dashboard and select <strong>\u201cDelete Board.\u201d<\/strong> Deleted boards are retrievable from the Trash within 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>You can also archive the board through the <strong>\u201cArchive Board\u201d<\/strong> option on the same panel. Archived boards can be accessed indefinitely from the archives section.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/mondaycom-boards\/delete-board.jpg\" alt=\"Delete or archive a board\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1084\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Communication on the Board<\/h3>\n<p>Monday.com offers the feature to not only communicate with team members on specific tasks or subtasks using the update section, but you can also communicate across the entire board using Board Discussions.<\/p>\n<p>To do this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to the three-dot menu on the top right corner of your dashboard.<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down to <strong>\u201cDiscussion.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A new panel will appear with a text box where you can add your message and then click <strong>\u201cUpdate\u201d<\/strong> and the message will go to all board members.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Board Owner<\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s important to know the dynamics of a board owner. A board owner is either the person who created the board or any subscribers the creator designates as co-owners. Only the initial owner and account admins can add other owners.<\/p>\n<p>If a board owner leaves the team, you can transfer ownership to recover the board.<\/p>\n<h3>Adding Board Description<\/h3>\n<p>At times, you may have to add a short description of the board to help members get a better understanding. You can add a description to your board by clicking the dropdown arrow next to your board\u2019s name and type in or edit the board\u2019s description.<\/p>\n<p>You can also find here other relevant information related to your board like the ownership, board type, and date created, etc.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/mondaycom-boards\/add-board-description.jpg\" alt=\"Add board description\" width=\"1600\" height=\"901\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Sorting and Filtering Your Board<\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s really easy to sort and customize your board through filters. Sorting and filtering helps you get to a specific task.<\/p>\n<p>To sort your board, click the <strong>\u201cSort\u201d<\/strong> icon at the top menu and sort your board through different parameters like Name, Status, or Due Date. You can add multiple sorting parameters through the <strong>\u201c+Add New Sort\u201d<\/strong> option and then click <strong>\u201cSave as New View\u201d<\/strong> to apply the changes.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, you can apply different filters to drill down to the specific information you\u2019re looking for. To filter your board, go to <strong>\u201cFilter\u201d<\/strong> in the top menu and apply any of the given filters to narrow down specific information. There\u2019s also an option to apply advanced filters.<\/p>\n<h3>See Views on Your Board<\/h3>\n<p>You can check who among your members has last viewed your board by going to the top right of your board and clicking on your profile icon. Clicking on the icons opens the activity log of your board with all the recent board activities.<\/p>\n<h3>Saving Board as a Template<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019ve created a perfect board that you find may be useful in all your succeeding projects, you can turn it into a template to reuse later.<\/p>\n<p>To save a board as a template, click the three-dot menu at the top right, scroll down to <strong>\u201cMore Actions,\u201d<\/strong> and then select the <strong>\u201cSave as a Template\u201d<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/mondaycom-boards\/saving-board-as-template.jpg\" alt=\"Save board as template\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1616\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Using AI Assistant for Generating Items<\/h3>\n<p>Monday.com offers a cool AI Assistant to help you generate items on your board based on the topic you input.
