As Apple device users, I think we\u2019re all guilty of a common problem: we have far too many unnecessary photos in our photo library than we want. These might be photos we took once to share with friends, or screenshots captured to share with peers. Without regular cleaning, this often clutters our photo library, leading to unnecessary hogging of storage space.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, as of this writing, Apple doesn\u2019t offer an option or feature for this. In my previous post, I shared how you can take a screenshot and send it without having it saved to your photo library<\/a>, but this is limited to screenshots only.<\/p>\n

\"Auto-delete<\/figure>\n

Wouldn\u2019t it be nice to also have the device automatically delete those one-off photos that we take after we send or share them?<\/p>\n

Well, there is a workaround, sort of, that deletes a photo from your album after you\u2019ve shared it. This involves using the Shortcuts feature, combined with Siri voice commands.<\/p>\n

The trick is to create a Siri-enabled shortcut that automatically detects and deletes the latest photo after you\u2019re done with it. By doing this, you will maintain a clearer photo library.<\/p>\n

First, we\u2019ll create a shortcut that will identify and delete the most recent photo in your album:<\/p>\n

  1. Open the Shortcuts app and tap the +<\/strong> sign to create a new shortcut. <\/li>\n
    \"Shortcut<\/span><\/figure>\n
  2. Search for \u201cFind Photos<\/strong>\u201d and select it. <\/li>\n
    \"Find<\/span><\/figure>\n
  3. Under \"Sort by<\/strong>\", change \u201cNone<\/strong>\u201d to \u201cCreation Date<\/strong>\u201c. <\/li>\n
    \"Sort<\/span><\/figure>\n
  4. For \"Order<\/strong>\", switch \u201cOldest First<\/strong>\u201d to \u201cLatest First<\/strong>\u201c. <\/li>\n
    \"Order<\/span><\/figure>\n
  5. Enable \u201cLimit<\/strong>\u201d and adjust it to \u201cGet 1 Photo<\/strong>\u201c. <\/li>\n
    \"Get<\/span><\/figure>\n
  6. Next, search for \u201cDelete Photos<\/strong>\u201d and add it below. <\/li>\n
    \"Delete<\/span><\/figure>\n<\/ol>\n

    This shortcut will now look for the latest photo in your Photo Library for deletion.<\/p>\n

    To add a layer of safety, let\u2019s include a confirmation step. Add the \u201cShow Alert<\/strong>\u201d action to the shortcut. This will prompt for confirmation before deleting the photo.<\/p>\n

    Last step: Choose a name for your shortcut that\u2019s easy to remember and makes sense when you use Siri. For instance, you could name it \"Delete Latest Photo<\/em>\". Then, just say to Siri, \"Hey Siri, delete the latest photo<\/em>\" to use it.<\/p>\n

    When you use the voice command, Siri will ask for confirmation, and then proceed to delete the said photo.<\/p>\n
