This feature allows you to create a replica, well, sort of, of your voice, which can then be used to read aloud the text you type on your iPhone.<\/p>\n

What is Personal Voice?<\/h2>\n

Before we delve into the setup process, let\u2019s understand what Personal Voice is and what it does.<\/p>\n

Personal Voice is a new feature introduced in iOS 17. It leverages the device\u2019s built-in machine learning capabilities to study and analyze your voice, subsequently creating a personalized voice model on your iPhone.<\/p>\n

Once this model is generated, you can use it for text-to-speech functions, such as reading out text, phrases, or sentences on your iPhone.<\/p>\n

Creating Your Personal Voice on iPhone<\/h2>\n

To generate your unique personal voice, you\u2019ll need to record 150 sets of random sentences, which should take approximately 15 minutes. Your iPhone will then analyze these recordings and construct a voice model based on your audio input.<\/p>\n

Here are the steps to set it up.<\/p>\n

  1. On your iPhone, go to \u2018Settings\u2019<\/strong> > \u2018Accessibility\u2019<\/strong>.<\/li>\n

  2. Scroll down and tap on \u2018Personal Voice<\/strong>\u2018 and select \u2018Create a Personal Voice<\/strong>\u2018.<\/li>\n

  3. Tap \u2018Continue\u2019<\/strong>, provide a name for your personal voice, then tap \u2018Continue\u2019<\/strong> again.<\/li>\n

  4. You are now in the sound quality check phase. Tap the \u2018Record\u2019<\/strong> button and read out the text. If everything is all good, tap \u2018Continue\u2019<\/strong> again to proceed.<\/li>\n

  5. Now, this is where the real recording of your voice starts. Tap the \u2018Record\u2019<\/strong> button and start reading the text you are prompted. Once you\u2019ve finished reading, you will see \u2018Moving to the next phrase<\/strong>\u2018.<\/li>\n

  6. If you wish to re-record a particular sentence, tap \u2018Re-record<\/strong>\u2018. If you wish to know how a particular line sounds like, tap \u2018Preview\u2019<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  7. Once you have finished reading all 150 out of 150 phrases, tap \u2018Continue\u2019<\/strong>, followed by \u2018OK\u2019<\/strong>.<\/li>\n

    You are all set for now. To expedite the generation of the voice model, lock your phone and put it on charge. The entire process may take a few hours, sometimes even days.<\/p>\n

    Note:<\/strong> In my case, it took around 8 hours with the phone locked and connected to a charging cable.<\/p>\n

    How to Know if My Personal Voice Is Ready?<\/h2>\n

    When your personal voice is being prepared, you will occasionally receive a notification, especially when your phone is locked and charging.<\/p>\n

    Once it\u2019s done, you will receive a notification stating that it\u2019s complete and your personal voice is ready for use.<\/p>\n

    Alternatively, you can check the status by navigating to \u2018Settings\u2019<\/strong> > \u2018Accessibility\u2019<\/strong> > \u2018Personal Voice<\/strong>\u2018. If it\u2019s complete, it will display the date it was created. Otherwise, it will show you the progress as a percentage.<\/p>\n

    How to Use Personal Voice on iPhone<\/h2>\n

    To hear what your personal voice sounds like during narration, you will first need to turn on \u2018Live Speech<\/strong>\u2018. Here\u2019s how to do it:<\/p>\n

    1. Go to \u2018Settings\u2019<\/strong> > \u2018Accessibility\u2019<\/strong>.<\/li>\n

      Can I delete the created personal voice?<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Yes, to delete any created personal voice, just click into it, and then tap on the \u2018delete\u2019 button.<\/p>\n

      Yes, as long as the other devices are signed in with the same iCloud ID. Also, in order to share, you must also enable it under \u2018Accessibility\u2019 > \u2018Personal Voice\u2019 > \u2018Share Across Devices\u2019.<\/p>\n
