If you\u2019re not logged in as root, you\u2019ll likely need to use <code>sudo<\/code> before the command, like <code>sudo chown user:group filename<\/code>, to make changes.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some ways to use the <code>chown<\/code> command:<\/p>\n<h3>1. Change the Owner<\/h3>\n<p>The basic syntax for changing the owner is <code>chown owner filename<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Example :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To change the owner of a file named <code>file.txt<\/code> to <code>user1<\/code>, you would use:<\/p>\n<pre>chown user1 file.txt<\/pre>\n<h3>2.
