Microsoft Edge has a lot of cool features; for example \u2013 you can earn Microsoft Rewards points<\/a> by just browsing the web with it. However, when it comes to launching a new window (natively) in a private mode, it kind of falls short when compared with Firefox<\/a> or Safari<\/a>. But this doesn\u2019t mean that it can\u2019t be achieved at all.<\/p>\n

In this post, we will tell you how to enable Microsoft Edge to open in a drive window each time we launch it. For this, we need first to create a shortcut and alter it with some parameters of its default settings, just like we\u2019ve previously done it with Chrome<\/a>. Let\u2019s take a look.<\/p>\n

Windows Users<\/h2>\n

Step 1<\/h3>\n

Launch File Explorer, and navigate to ProgramData > Microsoft > Windows > Start Menu > Programs. Or, you can also paste the following path directly in File Explorer to get directly to the intended destination.<\/p>\n

Step 2<\/h3>\n

Right-click once on the Microsoft Edge shortcut and select \"Properties\".<\/p>\n

Step 3<\/h3>\n

Inside \u201cTarget:\u201d, go to the end of the line, hit space once, then insert \u201c-inprivate<\/code>\u201d with the quotes.<\/p>\n

This will change the default:<\/p>\n

\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft\\Edge\\Application\\msedge.exe\"<\/code><\/p>\n

Into becoming:<\/p>\n

\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft\\Edge\\Application\\msedge.exe\" -inprivate<\/strong><\/code><\/p>\n

Step 4<\/h3>\n

Now, click \u201cOK\u201d, follow by \u201cContinue\u201d to confirm your changes.<\/p>\n

Your Edge browser should always open in InPrivate mode (by default) every time you launch it.<\/p>\n

Mac Users<\/h2>\n

And for those who have Microsoft Edge installed on your macOS, here\u2019s how to open it in InPrivate mode by default.<\/p>\n

Step 1<\/h3>\n

Launch Spotlight, search for and open the Script Editor app.<\/p>\n

Step 2<\/h3>\n

Click \u201cNew Document\u201d and paste the following codes inside.<\/p>\n

Next, save the file by going to File > Save, or hit the shortcut Command<\/span> + S<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Select \u201cDesktop\u201d for \u201cWhere:\u201d, \u201cApplication\u201d for \u201cFile Format:\u201d and then hit the \"Save\" button. What happens here is that an executable file that opens Edge in InPrivate mode will be created on your Desktop.<\/p>\n

Step 3<\/h3>\n

To ensure it works, double-click the executable file and see if it opens up Edge in InPrivate mode.<\/p>\n

Step 4<\/h3>\n

Now, let\u2019s add an icon to the executable we created and move it to the Dock.<\/p>\n

Launch Finder, the Microsoft Edge app installed on your Mac; right-click and select \u201cGet Info\u201d.<\/p>\n

Next, do a \u201cGet Info\u201d on the executable file and put the two dialogue boxes side by side, see the screenshot below for reference.<\/p>\n

Now, left-click once on the Edge logo, do a Command<\/span> + C<\/span> to copy its logo, then click the executable file\u2019s logo and hit Command<\/span> + V<\/span>.<\/p>\n

This will give the executable file a nice-looking Edge logo.<\/p>\n

Last but not least, drag it onto the Dock.<\/p>\n
