Opera is known for being a privacy-focused browser<\/a> compared to other more popular ones. If you want to make it more secure, you can activate the private mode by default.<\/p>\n

In the following, you\u2019ll find a step-by-step guide on how to get Opera to open automatically in a private window each time. Both Windows and Mac users can follow the steps according to their respective operating systems. So, let\u2019s see how to do it.<\/p>\n

Windows Users<\/h2>\n

Step 1<\/h3>\n

First, we need to locate where Opera is in the Windows files system. By default, the app should be inside C:\\Users\\user_name<\/em>\\AppData\\Local\\Programs<\/code>.<\/p>\n

Right-click on the Opera app and then select \u201cShow more options\u201d<\/p>\n

In the expanded menu, select \u201cCreate shortcut\u201d and rename the created shortcut to \u201cOpera Browser\u201d.<\/p>\n

Right-click on the created shortcut and select \"Properties\".<\/p>\n

Inside \u201cTarget:\u201d, go to the end of the line, add a space, follow by \u201c--private<\/code>\u201d without quotes, and then hit \u201cOK\u201d.<\/p>\n

In short, we are replacing the following:<\/p>\n

with one that includes a space<\/em> and the parameter --private<\/code>.<\/p>\n

Step 6<\/h3>\n

Double-click the Opera shortcut created to see if it opens up an Opera browser in Private mode, which it should.<\/p>\n

And if all works, you can now drag it down to the Taskbar so it opens up in Private mode every time you launch it.<\/p>\n

Mac Users<\/h2>\n

Step 1<\/h3>\n

Open the Script Editor app. You can search for it via Spotlight or find it inside \/System\/Applications\/Utilities<\/code>.<\/p>\n

In Script Editor, select \u201cNew Document\u201d and paste the following code inside.<\/p>\n

Then go to File > Save (Command<\/span> + S<\/span>) to save the file. Select \u201cDesktop\u201d for \u201cWhere:\u201d, \u201cApplication\u201d for \u201cFile Format:\u201d. Hit the \"Save\" button when done. This will create an executable file that opens Opera in Private mode on your Desktop.<\/p>\n

Double-click the executable file you just created; it should open up Opera in Private mode by default.<\/p>\n

Step 4<\/h3>\n

Finally, let\u2019s add an icon to the executable file so it looks nicer when added to the Dock.<\/p>\n

Open Finder, and look for the Opera app installed on your Mac, right-click, and select \u201cGet Info\u201d.<\/p>\n
