Google has recently made it really easy to create a drop-down menu in Google Sheets with no formulas needed. The dropdown menu allows you to create and customize a list of items you can select\/choose from.<\/p>\n

In this post, I\u2019m going to show you how to quickly add a dropdown menu in Google Sheets.<\/p>\n

Adding a dropdown menu on Google Sheets <\/h2>\n

There are two ways<\/strong> to insert a drop-down menu in Google Sheets. You can either do this:<\/p>\n

#1<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. Select the cell<\/strong> you want to create the dropdown menu.<\/li>\n
  2. Type @dropdowns<\/code> and hit Enter<\/strong>.<\/li>\n

    Or, you can add it from the Google Sheets menu.<\/p>\n

    1. Select the cell<\/strong> to create the dropdown.<\/li>\n
    2. Select Insert<\/strong> > Dropdown<\/strong> from the top menu.<\/li>\n

      To enter your own value, make sure \u201cDropdown<\/em>\u201d is selected in Criteria<\/strong>, and not \u201cDropdown (from a range)<\/em>\u201c.<\/p>\n

      You can drag-drop to rearrange your items or even change the colors of each item.<\/p>\n

      Dropdown Menu\u2019s Advance Options<\/h2>\n

      There are a few more things you can do to customize your dropdown menu further.<\/p>\n

      Change the display style<\/h3>\n

      You can change the menu\u2019s display style. There are currently 3 options to choose from, respectively, Chips<\/em> (default), Arrow<\/em>, and Plain text<\/em>.<\/p>\n

      Display custom error message<\/h3>\n

      Look under \u201cif the data is invalid<\/strong>\u201d \u2013 if \u201cShow a warning<\/strong>\u201d is checked, a tiny red mark<\/strong> (top-right corner) will be displayed in the cell when the user input is not within the provided options.<\/p>\n

      And if \u201cReject the input<\/strong>\u201d is checked, it will reject the entered item entirely.<\/p>\n

      Finally, you can also create a custom message for the input error. To do this, check \u201cShow help text for a selected cell<\/strong>\u201d and enter your message.<\/p>\n
