Learn how you can turn your normal photo into something livelier, by adding a realistic Polaroid effect to it.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Creating the Base<\/h2>\n<p>1. Create a new blank canvas, say about 800\u00d7600 resolution, filled it with white [#ffffff] background.<\/p>\n<p>2 Draw a rectangular in the middle, using Rounded Rectangular Tool with Radius: 2px. This will be the base for your Polaroid photo.<\/p>\n<p>3. Double click on layer name to launch Blending Options, and insert these following effects:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Drop Shadow<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Opacity: 38%<\/li>\n<li>Spread: 0%<\/li>\n<li>Size: 5px <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Inner Shadow<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Opacity:25%<\/li>\n<li>Distance: 0px<\/li>\n<li>Choke: 0%<\/li>\n<li>Size: 57px <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Color Overlay<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Color: White [#ffffff] <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here\u2019s how your output will look like.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" title=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/polaroid\/polaroid01.png\" width=\"296\" height=\"341\"><\/p>\n<h2>Determining Image Size within Polaroid <\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s determine how big our image will be within a Polaroid.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Hold CTRL and left click on the Polaroid Base\u2019s Layer Thumbnail to highlight the selection.<\/li>\n<li>With the selection highlighted, click Select -&gt; Modify -&gt; Contract.<\/li>\n<li>Insert 7px and click OK, you will noticed that the selection is shrink by 7px.<\/li>\n<li>Select Retangular Marquee Tool, Hold ALT and drag a smaller rectangular on the bottom to minus it off the selection. <\/li>\n<p>  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" title=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/polaroid\/polaroid05.png\" width=\"351\" height=\"381\"><\/p>\n<li>Create a new layer, call it \" <strong>Photo Base<\/strong>\" and fill the highlighted part with any color, say black, #000000 for instance. Hide the layer, we will use it as reference later. <\/li>\n<p>  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" title=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/polaroid\/polaroid02.png\" width=\"427\" height=\"350\">\n<\/p><\/ol>\n<h2>Adding Image into Polaroid<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Just make sure you have the selection of layer Photo Base still highlighted, if not, hold CTRL and click on the layer to re-highlight it.<\/li>\n<li>Create a new layer on top of <strong>Photo Base<\/strong>, call it <strong>Photo<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<li>Look for your desired image, copy it and SHIFT + CTRL V to paste it. You will noticed the image will paste itself into the highlighted selection.<\/li>\n<li>Transform (CTRL T) or reposition until you are satisfied with the focus point.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Making Polaroid Image more Realistic<\/h2>\n<p>The photo looks a bit stiff to me at this stage. Lets tweak it so it looks that it looks more blending into the Polaroid.<\/p>\n<p>Double click on the \"<strong>Golf<\/strong>\" layer to call up the Blending Options and tweak the following styles:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inner Shadow<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Opacity: 40%<\/li>\n<li>Distance: 0px<\/li>\n<li>Choke: 0%<\/li>\n<li>Size: 46px<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" title=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/polaroid\/polaroid06.png\" width=\"293\" height=\"338\"><\/p>\n<p>Hold CTRL, left click on <strong>Photo Base<\/strong> layer\u2019s thumbnail to highlight the selection, create a new layer on most top, call it \"<strong>Glossy<\/strong>\"<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" title=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/polaroid\/polaroid07.png\" width=\"412\" height=\"408\"><\/p>\n\n<p>Select <strong>Polygonal Lasso Tool<\/strong>, Hold ALT and draw a rectangular like the image below to cut off half of the highlighted selection.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" title=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/polaroid\/polaroid08.png\" width=\"379\" height=\"451\"><\/p>\n\n<p>Fill the left over selected area with white [#ffffff] and adjust its <strong>Opacity<\/strong> to 18% or any figures as long it looks comfortable on the photo. Your output will look something similar to the image below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" title=\"Polaroid in Photoshop\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/polaroid\/polaroid09.png\" width=\"294\" height=\"341\"><\/p>\n<h2>Adding Text to Polaroid<\/h2>\n<p>The photo is almost done, add some writings. Fonts close to handwriting will be nice.
