There\u2019s nothing else you can do but have someone reset it, or you can also do it yourself by connecting your phone to a PC or Mac. That\u2019s a pain in the neck, especially if you\u2019re not a tech-savvy person.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT212951\">iOS 15.2 was recently released<\/a> with useful features like Digital Legacy and App Privacy Report. And the best part? There\u2019s a new feature that allows you to completely reset a locked iPhone without the need to connect your phone to a Mac or PC first.<\/p>\n<p>Back then, resetting an iPhone is troublesome, it requires you to put your iPhone in DFU recovery mode, then restore it via Finder on the Mac or iTunes on Windows.<\/p>\n<p>With this new feature, a button in the bottom-right corner called \u201cErase iPhone\u201d can be used or tapped to reset your phone. This function is also available for iPad and iPod touch.<\/p>\n<h2>Can it be abused? Not quite\u2026<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re worried that someone might abuse this feature to unlock phones, specially stolen ones, then <strong>worry not<\/strong>. Because for someone to successfully reset an iPhone, it needs to be connected to wifi or at least mobile data.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And you will need the <strong>same Apple ID and password<\/strong> that you used to set up the device. So it\u2019s not a free pass for would-be iPhone thieves.<\/p>\n<h2>Erasing your locked iPhone without PC or Mac<\/h2>\n<p>Erasing or resetting a locked iPhone only takes a couple of steps. I\u2019m providing a screenshot from Apple\u2019s official support page because I really don\u2019t want to erase my iPhone\u2019s data, so only proceed if you are sure you want to get locked out!<\/p>\n<figure class=\"screenshot-mobile-portrait\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/reset-iphone-without-pc\/ios15-security-lockout-erase-iphone.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"1294\" alt=\"Erase your iPhone's data without connecting to a PC or Mac\"><\/figure>\n<ol>\n<li>Get your iPhone and enter a random passcode several times until the \u201cSecurity Lockout\u201d screen appears. You will have 15 minutes to change your mind or to remember your passcode. During this time, you can start the wipeout process.<\/li>\n<li>At the bottom-right corner, tap the \u201cErase iPhone\u201d button, and then tap on it to confirm.<\/li>\n<li>Using the account linked to your locked iPhone, enter the Apple ID password to sign out of your account.<\/li>\n<li>Tap the \u201cErase iPhone\u201d button to clear all your data and settings. Wait for a bit, and it will restart on its own, good as new.
