You can do so by comparing posts and pictures on their account.<\/p>\n<p>If you see obvious similarities such as recycled pictures and copied posts, it\u2019s more likely an impersonator\u2019s account. And lastly, there\u2019s nothing more concrete evidence than confirming your suspicion with the person that\u2019s being impersonated herself\/himself.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re worried about yourself being impersonated, the easiest way to check is to do a quick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hongkiat.com\/blog\/better-google-searching\/\">Google search<\/a> of your name plus the word \u201cInstagram\u201d. You should be able to see the results of existing accounts under your name and figure out which ones are trying to mimic you.<\/p>\n<p>You can also do this on Instagram\u2019s search bar; accounts with the same name as yours should pop up unless they\u2019ve blocked you.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a summary of things that I would check:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Check the bio to see if they claim that they are official, or if it\u2019s a satirical page, fan page, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Check if the posts are copied directly from the original source \u2013 this is easier if you know the person\u2019s original Instagram account.<\/li>\n<li>If it\u2019s you, a normal user, and someone is using your photos under a different name, then that is definitely something to be serious about<\/li>\n<li>If it\u2019s someone you know and they are using a different name, most likely it\u2019s an impersonator. <\/li>\n<li>This will sound funny but it\u2019s common for women to be impersonated online, and scammers do this to catfish guys on dating platforms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>You can report an impersonator on Instagram<\/h2>\n<p>Reporting an account is easy on Instagram. Instagram will then ask for your selfie and government ID for identification.<\/p>\n<p>For reports submitted through the app, the support team will contact you via the email that you\u2019ve provided.<\/p>\n<p>Although it\u2019s not confirmed, the more people there are who report an account, the better chances of it being taken care of faster. So once you verify that it\u2019s indeed an impersonator\u2019s account, employ the help of your family and friends.<\/p>\n<h2>Reported \u2013 What next?<\/h2>\n<p>After you submit the report, the time it takes for the Instagram support team to respond would depend, there\u2019s no fixed timeline for it.<\/p>\n<p>While waiting, it is best to inform and spread awareness to your friends and family, including the impersonator\u2019s target audience. If the person being impersonated is someone else, it\u2019s best to reach out to that person to inform them as well.<\/p>\n<h2>Important Note<\/h2>\n<p>Moving forward, to avoid or at least limit the chances of such incidents from occurring, be cautious about what you post on social media because everything you put out there can be copied or stolen by anyone.<\/p>\n<p>They then can be used to do illegal activities like tricking people.
