Although Android has no fewer automation apps, I find MacroDroid to be the <strong>easiest and straightforward<\/strong> of them all. Don\u2019t you agree? <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.arlosoft.macrodroid&hl=en\">Try it yourself<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/automate-android-macrodroid\/macrodroid-simple-automation-app.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1064\" alt=\"MacroDroid is a simple automation app\"><\/figure>\n<p>You can <strong>automate your daily workflow<\/strong> with this hassle-free solution, thus optimizing your daily life. For instance, you can start playing music when you enter your home or switch to mobile data when you leave for office.<\/p>\n<h2>MacroDroid vs. others<\/h2>\n<p>MacroDroid does not come without competition \u2014 massive competition. Automate and Tasker are two other apps that feature almost the same functionality as MacroDroid. Among these three apps, Automate is free like MacroDroid, but Tasker comes for a fee on the Google Play Store.<\/p>\n<p>I found <strong>Tasker to be super heavy in functionality<\/strong> and Automate does good as well in comparison to the other two, but MacroDroid has a long list of features while <strong>costing zero for automating five tasks<\/strong>. This is the reason that we are going to use MacroDroid to help automate our daily lives to boost productivity.<\/p>\n<h2>How to automate tasks?<\/h2>\n<h3>Check the basics<\/h3>\n<p>MacroDroid provides an intuitive wizard for creating <strong>macros \u2014 the automation script<\/strong> that automates a single task for you. For example, you can create a macro to toggle on the network when you reach home if it is past 7 pm.<\/p>\n<p>In this example, the first part of the task \u201c<em>toggle on the network<\/em>\u201d is called an action (i.e., the task to do). The second part \u201c<em>when you reach home<\/em>\u201d is called a trigger (i.e., when to do the task). Lastly, the third part \u201c<em>if it is past 7 pm<\/em>\u201d is called a constraint (i.e., the condition that must be true for doing the task).<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/automate-android-macrodroid\/macrodroid-basics.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"710\" alt=\"Basics of MacroDroid\"><\/figure>\n<p>If you understand all these three parts of a macro, you will feel at home with MacroDroid. Whenever you create a macro, you must <strong>specify a trigger and an action<\/strong> to do when the trigger is met. Moreover, you can provide an optional constraint to restrict doing the action when the constraint is not met.<\/p>\n<h3>Create your first macro<\/h3>\n<p>First thing first, <strong>instal MacroDroid<\/strong> from the Google Play Store. Now follow the steps below to create a macro to toggle on the network when you reach home if it is past 7 pm.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open MacroDroid and click \u201c<strong>Add Macro<\/strong>\u201c. It displays a wizard to create a macro, allowing a beginner to create an macro easy way.<\/li>\n<li>You will see the \u201c<strong>Create macro<\/strong>\u201d wizard that shows three tabs \u2014 Triggers, Actions, and Constraints; which are self-explanatory.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Triggers<\/strong> tab, click <strong>Location<\/strong> <strong>&gt;<\/strong> choose \u201c<strong>Geofence Trigger<\/strong>\u201d then select \u201c<strong>Area Entered<\/strong>\u201d and click <strong>OK<\/strong>. Now click the <strong>+ button<\/strong> to create a new zone and select your home location in this zone.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/automate-android-macrodroid\/configure-trigger-macrodroid.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"710\" alt=\"Configure the trigger for a macro\"><\/figure>\n<li>In the <strong>Actions<\/strong> tab, click <strong>Connectivity<\/strong> <strong>&gt;<\/strong> choose \u201c<strong>Wifi Configure<\/strong>\u201d then select \u201c<strong>Enable Wifi<\/strong>\u201d from the options and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/automate-android-macrodroid\/configure-action-macrodroid.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"710\" alt=\"Configure the action for a macro\"><\/figure>\n<li>In the <strong>Constraints<\/strong> tab, click \u201c<strong>Date\/Time<\/strong>\u201d <strong>&gt;<\/strong> choose \u201c<strong>Time of Day<\/strong>\u201d then select 19:00 as the start time and 23:59 as the end time.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/automate-android-macrodroid\/configure-constraint-macrodroid.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"710\" alt=\"Configure the constraint for a macro\"><\/figure>\n<li>Finally, after you are done adding the trigger, action, and constraint; click the <strong>tick button<\/strong> at the bottom-right corner to create the macro.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>How was your experience? I believe you will be amazed now. MacroDroid packs in support for <strong>a wide range of triggers, actions, and constraints<\/strong> that is enough for creating hundreds of macros for automating different types of tasks.<\/p>\n<h2>Useful macro templates<\/h2>\n<p>What I found interesting in MacroDroid is its support for macro templates. These are pre-designed macros which are created and uploaded by other users. These templates allow anyone to <strong>automate tasks without knowing the design<\/strong> and specs of the underlying macros; you can use them out of the box.<\/p>\n<p>MacroDroid comes with a big list of macro templates, which you can access under <strong>Templates<\/strong> in the app. This section is arranged in three categories: Local, Top rated, and Latest. You can browse the templates in these categories, <strong>search for them using keywords<\/strong>, or filter them using buttons given at the top.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/automate-android-macrodroid\/macrodroid-macro-templates.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"632\" alt=\"Macro templates in MacroDroid\"><\/figure>\n<p>I hope you now know about the templates and you can find them easily in the app. However, I found MacroDroid is so full of macro templates that it is hard to <strong>find all the good ones<\/strong> in one go, so I am listing the useful ones below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> These links will only work when you <strong>open them in MacroDroid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgICAuamZCQw\">Flashlight<\/a>:<\/strong> Toggle on and off the flashlight by shaking the device.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgICAmYOcCww\">Find my phone<\/a>:<\/strong> Find your phone by sending a \u201cFIND ME\u201d message to it.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgIDg14KUCQw\">Spy microphone<\/a>:<\/strong> Record conversations by just flipping down your phone.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgICAwOGKCQw\">Automate Wi-Fi<\/a>:<\/strong> Toggle on and off the Wi-Fi when the screen is on or off.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgICguZ6BCgw\">Shake for torch<\/a>:<\/strong> Switch on the flashlight by just shaking the phone. It only works in the dark, avoiding its activation while in the pocket.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgIDA9KGRCQw\">Caller\u2019s name<\/a>:<\/strong> Speak the name of the caller through the phone\u2019s speaker.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgIDggcOWCgw\">Backup photos<\/a>:<\/strong> Backup the pictures daily from multiple social apps (like WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.) to a pictures folder on the memory card.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgICAqL-CCgw\">Mute the phone<\/a>:<\/strong> Mute the phone during school or during office hours.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgIDA6ZiYCww\">Start the PC<\/a>:<\/strong> Boot your PC automatically using \u201cWake-up using LAN\u201d. Do note that you must configure this macro and your system for it to work.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgICAmc7UCAw\">Failed login details<\/a>:<\/strong> Send failed login notification via email or message including the intruder\u2019s photo upon three failed login attempts.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgIDA-KmXCQw\">Set a profile<\/a>:<\/strong> Activate a home profile based on your requirements. You can also tune the macro to activate an office or any other profile.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgIDI3siOCgw\">Secret camera<\/a>:<\/strong> Snap photos secretly by just pressing the volume buttons on your phone and click its notification to turn the feature on or off.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgIDwnriLCgw\">Guest mode<\/a>:<\/strong> Switch to the home screen if a restricted app gets opened.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgIDwnriLCgw\">Disable screen lock<\/a>:<\/strong> Disable the screen lock while being in your home.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgIDA94yFCgw\">Switch profiles<\/a>:<\/strong> Switch between three profiles \u2014 home, work, and away. You can configure all these profiles for changing the settings quickly.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgIDQvvCSCgw\">Record calls<\/a>:<\/strong> Record all incoming and outgoing calls using this macro. You can also customize it to record a particular number or unknown ones.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgIDgzJuPCgw\">Spy video camera<\/a>:<\/strong> Record a secret video on the phone. You can change it to set another trigger as well.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.macrodroid.com\/template?id=ag1zfm1hY3JvLWRyb2lkchILEgVNYWNybxiAgIDgiZuJCgw\">Spotify alarm<\/a>:<\/strong> Wake you up with your favorite music app like Spotify.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That is all about the basics, macros, and templates of MacroDroid. It is much more featureful and powerful than I can cover here, so <strong>go ahead and experiment<\/strong> a little with MacroDroid. I hope you will enjoy playing with it.<\/p>\n<p>You can also <strong>start with templates and customize them<\/strong> per your requirements to create your unique macros.
