You can either do it via the Installation Tool that ships with Remix OS or using a Universal USB Installer.<\/p>\n<h3>1.1 Create boot stick from Installation Tool<\/h3>\n<p>Installation Tool provided with the Remix OS is the <strong><em>de facto<\/em> tool for creating a bootable device with Remix OS<\/strong>. Follow the below steps to create a bootable flash disk:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Extract the downloaded Remix OS\u2019s archive<\/strong> using an archiver.<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>Remix OS for PC Installation Tool<\/strong> from the extracted folder.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Browse<\/strong> and choose the Remix OS\u2019s ISO from the extracted folder.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/running-android-on-computer-remix-os\/remix-os-installation-tool.jpg\" width=\"525\" height=\"392\" alt=\"Remix OS Installation Tool\"><\/figure>\n<li>Choose the <strong>Type<\/strong> and the <strong>Drive<\/strong> for your portable drive <strong> and<\/strong> click <strong>OK<\/strong><\/li>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Do select the drive wisely otherwise you <strong>may risk losing all data<\/strong> on chosen drive.<\/p>\n<li>Select the system size (for resident mode) to <strong>save apps and data<\/strong> and click <strong>Ok<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/running-android-on-computer-remix-os\/system-size-remix-os.jpg\" width=\"528\" height=\"389\" alt=\"System size for Remix OS\"><\/figure>\n<li>Now the tool will <strong>copy files and add the bootloader<\/strong> to your portable disk.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>1.2 Create boot stick with Universal USB Installer<\/h3>\n<p>Universal USB Installer <strong>works for various Linux distros as well as for Remix OS<\/strong>, fortunately. If the above guide to create boot disk <strong>using Remix OS\u2019s own Installer Tool has failed for you<\/strong>, then please install it using steps given below:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the downloaded Universal USB Installer and press <strong>I Agree<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Choose <strong>Try Unlisted Linux ISO<\/strong> in its <strong>Step 1<\/strong> dropdown option.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Browse<\/strong> button and choose the Remix OS\u2019s ISO (from steps above).<\/li>\n<li>Now select your portable drive in its <strong>Step 3<\/strong> dropdown option. If your portable disk is invisible, then check <strong>Show All Drives<\/strong> to see all the storage drives.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/running-android-on-computer-remix-os\/universal-usb-installer.jpg\" width=\"498\" height=\"386\" alt=\"Universal USB Installer\"><\/figure>\n<li>Press the <strong>Create<\/strong> button and it will copy the files to your portable disk.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Step 2: Installing Remix OS<\/h2>\n<p>Next up, you can install Remix OS on a portavble drive or run it directly in your PC\u2019s hard disk.<\/p>\n<h3>2.1 Install Remix OS on  portable flash disk<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Remix OS can be safely installed on a portable flash disk<\/strong> to avoid any potential data loss on your system. This method is also <strong>good for testing out Remix OS<\/strong> on your system before replacing Windows and making it your everyday operating system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> If you\u2019ve created the boot disk using its Installation Tool, then you can skip this part and continue with <strong>Setup after booting up Remix OS first time<\/strong> directly (given below).<\/p>\n<p>Just follow the below mentioned steps to install Remix OS on a portable drive:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Boot your system<\/strong> using the boot disk created above.<\/li>\n<li>Choose the <strong>Resident mode<\/strong> on the startup screen.\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/running-android-on-computer-remix-os\/startup-options-remix-os.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"293\" alt=\"Startup options for Remix OS\"><\/figure>\n<\/li>\n<li>Now <strong>it will ask to create a data partition<\/strong> to save apps and approve it.<\/li>\n<li>It will first perform a <strong>writing speed test<\/strong> to determine you\u2019re using a fast enough portable disk and if not, <strong>please use a speedier device to follow this tutorial<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/running-android-on-computer-remix-os\/writing-speed-test.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"206\" alt=\"Writing speed test\"><\/figure>\n<li>Then it will <strong>create and format the data partition<\/strong> on your portable drive.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/running-android-on-computer-remix-os\/create-format-data-partition.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"198\" alt=\"Create and format data partition\"><\/figure>\n<li>Now it will continue booting the system \u2013 please continue with <strong>Setup after booting up Remix OS first time<\/strong> (given below).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>2.2 Install Remix OS on your system\u2019s hard disk<\/h3>\n<p>Please follow the steps mentioned below if you want to <strong>install Remix OS as the only operating system<\/strong> on your computer. Do understand that this will <strong>replace Windows<\/strong> on your system and will <strong>erase everything<\/strong> on your hard disk, so please don\u2019t follow if you risk losing your data.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s suggested that you should <strong>first test Remix OS<\/strong> on your system using a portable flash disk (as demonstrated above). Then you can install it on your system if it works with your hardware and you <strong>find it worthy enough to be used as your everyday operating system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Follow the given steps if you <strong>understand the risk<\/strong> and are ready to delete all data:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Boot the computer<\/strong> using the boot disk created above.<\/li>\n<li>Choose <strong>Resident mode<\/strong> on the startup screen and press <span class=\"key\">E<\/span>.\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/running-android-on-computer-remix-os\/startup-options-remix-os.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"293\" alt=\"Startup options for Remix OS\"><\/figure>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the shown command line, <strong>delete<\/strong> \"<code>USB_PARTITION=1<\/code>\" or\/and <code>\"USB_DATA_PARTITION=1<\/code>\" and <strong>add<\/strong> \"<code>INSTALL=2<\/code>\" on its place.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/running-android-on-computer-remix-os\/command-install-remix-os.jpg\" width=\"601\" height=\"133\" alt=\"Command to install Remix OS\"><\/figure>\n<li>After you\u2019re done, press <span class=\"key\">F10<\/span> and <strong>follow the installation instructions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Step 3: Set up Remix OS (for the first time)<\/h2>\n<p>Remix OS is built on the top of Android, hence <strong>it needs the same setup that a new Android smartphone<\/strong> asks for.
