There are so many times when you have to compress (zip) a file or folder on Mac to send or share but the only way to do so is through the tedious right-click > Compress \u201cfile or folder\u201d. That\u2019s because, unfortunately, macOS does not support a native keyboard shortcut<\/strong> to compress files yet.<\/p>\n

However, where there\u2019s a will, there\u2019s a way and the way here is to create a keyboard shortcut to compress files and folders yourself with any combination of keys you prefer<\/strong>. Just take a look at the following steps to know how to do it.<\/p>\n

  1. Click the Apple logo<\/strong> (top left corner of the screen), select System Preference<\/strong>.<\/li>\n

  2. Navigate to Keyboard<\/strong> > Shortcuts<\/strong> > App Shortcuts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n

  3. Click the +<\/strong><\/span> (plus icon).<\/li>\n

  4. Choose Finder<\/strong> from \u201cApplication:\u201d dropdown menu.<\/li>\n
  5. Enter Compress<\/strong> for \u201cMenu Title:\u201d<\/li>\n

  6. Click the input box beside \u201cKeyboard Shortcut:\u201d once, and record your preferred shortcut keystroke. (Suggestion:<\/strong> Use Shift<\/span> + Command<\/span> + C<\/span>, or Option<\/span> + Command<\/span> + C<\/span>)<\/em><\/li>\n
  7. Click Add<\/strong> to finalize your shortcut.<\/li>\n
