Even desktop users like native apps more than relying on a website for extensive work. This makes native apps preferred over a website<\/strong> because nobody likes opening and switching tabs.<\/p>\n

Well, even though native apps burn a hole in the pocket for being expensive, yet there is an alternative method to create them for almost free. All it\u2019s going to do is to cost you some time, and you will have native apps for your site at the end. Are you interested thenlet us create some native apps<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Desktop Platforms<\/h2>\n

First of all, let\u2019s create apps for desktop platforms \u2014 Windows, macOS, Linux, and Chrome OS<\/a>. These apps will be packaged in the platforms\u2019 respective formats<\/strong>, such as \u201c.exe\u201d for Windows.<\/p>\n

However, it may not create an installer but an archive of the app\u2019s files \u2014 you can find and run the executable in it.<\/p>\n

1. Web2Desk<\/h3>\n

Web2Desk is an easy tool for converting websites into desktop apps<\/strong>. It lets you convert any website into native app packages for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Also, it is super fast \u2014 your app is created in mere minutes. Just follow the below steps to create a native app for Windows using Web2Desk:<\/p>\n

  1. Open \u201chttps:\/\/desktop.appmaker.xyz\/<\/a>\u201d in a web browser.<\/li>\n
  2. Once you see the tool there, enter your website\u2019s address<\/strong> (for example, \u201chttps:\/\/www.aksingh.net\/\u201d in the screenshot), the site\u2019s name, its icon, and your email in the respective fields in the given form.<\/li>\n
    \"Create<\/figure>\n
  3. Finally, hit the \u201cCreate Now<\/strong>\u201d button to create the native desktop apps.<\/li>\n
  4. Web2Desk will show you progress bars for creating packages for all three supported platforms \u2014 Windows, macOS, and Linux. Once a progress bar is successful for a platform, you can hit the \u201cDownload Now<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/li>\n

  5. After you download a file, you can unzip it and execute the executable. For example, you need to run the \u201c.exe\u201d file in Windows.<\/li>\n

    That is all about creating apps for Windows quickly using the online tool named Web2Desk. As I shared above, please do check any downloaded file using an antivirus tool (you can check the Prerequisites<\/strong> section above for details).<\/p>\n

    2. Applicationize<\/h3>\n

    Alternatively, you can create an app for Google Chrome<\/strong> and launch it using the search giant\u2019s browser in any operating system running Google Chrome and that includes Windows, macOS, Linux, and Chrome OS. I know it is not a native app for any platform other than Chrome OS, but it is most platform-agnostic.<\/p>\n

    Applicationize is a free tool to create apps directly from websites. It creates an app for Google Chrome (which also works in Chrome OS) that acts as a wrapper for the website. What I like about Google Chrome\u2019s apps is, they act most like the native apps<\/strong>, as they appear in the launcher (Start menu for Windows).<\/p>\n

    Alright, let us convert a website into an app for Google Chrome. Please follow the below steps for generating extensions as apps using Applicationize:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Open \u201chttps:\/\/applicationize.me\/now<\/a>\u201d in a browser.<\/li>\n
    2. Enter your site\u2019s address in the textbox named \u201cWEB APP URL<\/strong>\u201d (for example, \u201chttps:\/\/www.aksingh.net\/\u201d in the screenshot).<\/li>\n
      \"Create<\/figure>\n
    3. Click the text \u201c(advanced options)<\/strong>\u201d below the text box if you wish to check and configure some more settings for creating the extension.<\/li>\n
      \"Advanced<\/figure>\n
    4. Finally, click the button named \u201cGenerate & Download Chrome Extension<\/strong>\u201d to download the app (as an extension) for Chrome OS.<\/li>\n
    5. Applicationize will create and trigger a download of your app. Once it (a file with a name ending with \u201c.crx\u201d) is downloaded, you can drag and drop the extension to Chrome Extensions (open \u201cchrome:\/\/extensions\/<\/strong>\u201d in the browser to open it). The browser will install your website\u2019s app.<\/li>\n

    6. Lastly, open the Apps in Chrome \u2014 open \u201cchrome:\/\/apps\/<\/strong>\u201d in the browser. You will see your site\u2019s app there \u2014 just click it to open it.<\/li>\n

    7. Finally, you will see the app opened and running in front of you.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Please do remember to check the downloaded extension file (\u201c.crx\u201d in this case) via an antivirus software before installing or distributing it to someone.<\/p>\n

      Mobile Platforms<\/h2>\n

      Secondly, let us create apps for the mobile platforms \u2014 Android, but not iOS. It is because I could not find any app maker for converting websites to apps for iOS in zero cost, unfortunately. As with the desktop platforms, these apps will be packaged in the platforms\u2019 native formats, for example, \u201c.apk\u201d for Android.<\/p>\n

      Note:<\/strong> Your website must be mobile-friendly or responsive<\/strong> for working as a mobile app, else its design will not fit on the small screen, thus your mobile app will not work as expected on mobile phones. If you are unsure, you can test your site for mobile-friendliness<\/a> or make it mobile-friendly using these tools<\/a>.<\/p>\n

      1. AppsGeyser<\/h3>\n

      AppsGeyser is a handsome tool for creating mobile apps. It provides multiple templates for creating a variety of apps including a website template for making a mobile app<\/strong> for a website. You will feel right at home with AppsGeyser, thanks to its intuitive interface, and it is quick at generating the apps as well.<\/p>\n

      Although it is free to make apps for Android with AppsGeyser, it is not free to publish an app to Google Play Store since Google charges a fee. Of course, you can publish your app to other app markets<\/strong> for free, such as Aptoide and GetJar. Alternatively, you can also host your app (\u201c.apk\u201d file) on your website.<\/p>\n

      When you are ready to make your app, please follow the below steps:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Open \u201chttps:\/\/www.appsgeyser.com\/<\/a>\u201d (AppsGeyser) in a browser.<\/li>\n
      2. Click on the \u201cCREATE NOW FOR FREE<\/strong>\u201d button to start the process.<\/li>\n
      3. Select the Website<\/strong> template from the list shown under \u201cCREATE APP\u201d.<\/li>\n
        \"Choose<\/figure>\n
      4. Enter your website\u2019s address in the field named \u201cWebsite URL<\/strong>\u201d and click the GO<\/strong> button. Then, please wait for AppsGeyser to load the site\u2019s data.<\/li>\n
      5. Now, you can click the popup in the mobile shown on the right side to see a preview of your application, and press \u201cRefresh preview<\/strong>\u201d to reload it.<\/li>\n

      6. You can choose the color theme for your app and configure the other tabs (Blog and Twitter) as well in case you wish to keep them in your app. Or you can also delete them using \u201cREMOVE TAB\u201d to keep just the website.<\/li>\n
      7. After you are done making these changes, please click the NEXT<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n
      8. Then, enter a name for your app ><\/strong> press NEXT<\/strong>. In the next accordion, enter a description for your app and press the NEXT<\/strong> button again.<\/li>\n
      9. Then, choose between the default or a custom icon for your app and press NEXT<\/strong>. In the case of the latter, you must upload an icon for your app.<\/li>\n

      10. Finally, hit the CREATE<\/strong> button. It will ask you to register or sign in \u2014 please one of them, and AppsGeyser will show you an option to edit your app. You can click the Edit<\/strong> button to make further customizations.<\/li>\n
      11. Once you are done, click the DASHBOARD<\/strong> option on the left and scroll down to the section named \u201cDownload your App<\/strong>\u201c. Click the DOWNLOAD<\/strong> button and click the download button in the popup to get your app.<\/li>\n

        Lastly, let me remind you again that you must verify the contents of this file<\/strong> by checking it through a local or online antivirus and anti-malware software.<\/p>\n
