These prompts will stop you from navigating the website and <strong>won\u2019t go away until you hit the \u201cAllow\u201d or \u201cDeny\u201d<\/strong> button. If you are tired of seeing these prompts, you can easily <strong>disable them in your browser<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In this post, I will show you <strong>how to disable location tracking and desktop notifications<\/strong> in <a href=\"#chrome\">Chrome<\/a>, <a href=\"#firefox\">Firefox<\/a>, <a href=\"#opera\">Opera<\/a>, <a href=\"#safari\">Safari<\/a> and <a href=\"#edge\">Microsoft Edge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After disabling these features, use the <strong>Manage exceptions<\/strong> (if available) button to <strong>manually allow these features<\/strong> on the required websites.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong> Do remember that <strong>location tracking and desktop notification features can be very handy<\/strong>. Select <strong>\"Do not allow any site to track your physical location\" <\/strong>in the <strong>Location<\/strong> section, and select <strong>\"Do not allow any site to show notifications\"<\/strong> in the <strong>Notifications<\/strong> section.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/stop-showing-desktop-notifications\/03-disable-location-notification-in-chrome.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"437\" alt=\"disable location chrome\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Manage exceptions<\/h3>\n<p>You should see a button of <strong>Manage exceptions<\/strong> below each of the options. Click on it to allow these features on specific websites, or block them on websites that are already allowed to track location or show desktop notifications.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/stop-showing-desktop-notifications\/04-manage-exceptions-chrome.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"485\" alt=\"manage exception\"><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"firefox\">Firefox<\/h2>\n<p>Firefox doesn\u2019t offer any way to disable location tracking and desktop notifications from its main options. However, you can still <strong>completely disable these options from its hidden experimental settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To access hidden settings in Firefox, type <code><strong>about:config<\/strong><\/code> in the address bar and hit enter. Click on<strong> \"I accept the risk!\"<\/strong> button on the next page and you will see a big list of tweakable features.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/stop-showing-desktop-notifications\/05-firefox-about-config.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"402\" alt=\"firefox config\"><\/figure>\n<p>To stop location tracking prompts, type <code><strong>geo.enabled <\/strong><\/code> in the above search bar and double-click on <strong>geo.enabled<\/strong> option to set it to <strong>False<\/strong>. This will stop websites from prompting you to enable location tracking.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/stop-showing-desktop-notifications\/06-disable-location-firefox.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"210\" alt=\"disable location\"><\/figure>\n<p>To stop desktop notification prompts, type <code><strong>dom.webnotifications.enabled <\/strong><\/code> in the search bar and double-click on <strong>dom.webnotifications.enabled<\/strong> to set it to <strong>False<\/strong>. To disable location prompts, simply select <strong>\"Do not allow any site to track my physical location\"<\/strong> in the <strong>Location<\/strong> section. And to disable desktop notifications prompt, select <strong>\"Do not allow any site to show desktop notifications\"<\/strong> in the <strong>Notifications<\/strong> section.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/stop-showing-desktop-notifications\/09-disable-location-notification-opera.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"480\" alt=\"disable location\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Manage exceptions<\/h3>\n<p>Similar to Chrome, Opera also has <strong>Manage exceptions<\/strong> button under each of these options. Simply click on it to allow or block these features for specific websites.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/stop-showing-desktop-notifications\/10-manage-exceptions-in-opera.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"469\" alt=\"manage opera exception\"><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"ie\">Internet Explorer<\/h2>\n<p>Internet Explorer <strong>doesn\u2019t support desktop notification by default<\/strong>, so you won\u2019t have to worry about those prompts. However, you will still see location tracking prompts and here\u2019s how to disable them.<\/p>\n<p>In Internet Explorer, click on the <strong>Gear<\/strong> icon at the top-right corner and select<strong> Internet options<\/strong> from it.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/stop-showing-desktop-notifications\/11-internet-options.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"332\" alt=\"internet options\"><\/figure>\n<p>Here move to the <strong>Privacy<\/strong> tab and check the checkbox next to <strong>\"Never allow websites to request your physical location\"<\/strong>. This will prevent websites from showing location tracking prompts.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/stop-showing-desktop-notifications\/12-disable-locaiton-internet-explorer.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"332\" alt=\"disable location\"><\/figure>\n<h3>Manage exceptions<\/h3>\n<p>Internet Explorer <strong>doesn\u2019t make it easy to manage exceptions<\/strong>, but you can still do it. The browser will not block location tracking for websites that are already allowed to track. So you can <strong>allow location tracking on the required websites and then disable it in the browser<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you need to disable location tracking for all the websites again, then perform the steps mentioned above and then click on the <strong>Clear sites<\/strong> button next to the <strong>\"Never allow websites to request your physical location\" <\/strong>button. This will clear all the sites that were previously allowed to track location.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/stop-showing-desktop-notifications\/13-clear-site-data.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"312\" alt=\"clear site data\"><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"edge\">Microsoft Edge<\/h2>\n<p>Microsoft Edge does support location tracking and desktop notifications, but it doesn\u2019t offer any convenient way to disable them.<\/p>\n<p>To <strong>disable location tracking requests<\/strong>, you will have to disable location tracking in the Windows 10 settings like you do it for other Windows 10 universal apps. Go to <strong>Settings<\/strong> from the start menu and click on the <strong>Privacy<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/stop-showing-desktop-notifications\/14-windows-10-privacy-option.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"320\" alt=\"privacy settings\"><\/figure>\n<p>Here select<strong> Location<\/strong> section from the left menu and then scroll down until you see all the Windows universal apps listed. Simply <strong>click on the toggle button<\/strong> next to Microsoft Edge and switch it off. This will disable location tracking prompt in Edge and will <strong>stop all the websites from tracking your location<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To disable desktop notification prompts in Microsoft Edge, there is, unfortunately, no option. Although you <strong>may have a little trouble managing location tracking<\/strong> similar to Internet Explorer.<\/p>\n<p>From the Safari menu, go to <strong>Preferences<\/strong> and then move to <strong>Privacy<\/strong> tab. You can allow location tracking on required websites and then disable location tracking, and Safari will not block location tracking for those websites.<\/p>\n<p>Go to the <strong>Preferences<\/strong> again and click on the <strong>Notifications<\/strong> tab.
