Designing and coding a newsletter<\/strong> is time-consuming. You can find plenty of design tips<\/a> but coding your newsletter into a template<\/strong> is the toughest part.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s where the MJML framework<\/a><\/strong> comes into play. It\u2019s one of the best free email frameworks out there and it compiles into pure HTML\/CSS<\/strong>, that works for all email clients<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

One of the more frustrating things about coding a newsletter is getting it to work across all platforms<\/strong>. This goes double for responsive design<\/strong> which needs to work for mobile and desktop clients, too.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, with the MJML framework you get a simple abstraction of HTML<\/strong>, so you aren\u2019t coding every single line by hand. They have a beginner\u2019s guide<\/a><\/strong> which is great for anyone new to email development.<\/p>\n

\"MJML<\/a><\/figure>\n

You\u2019ll use custom elements<\/strong> such as <mj-column><\/code> to build columns and rows for your template<\/strong>. You can quickly add text, buttons, and spacing, based on your needs. The MJML framework transpiles<\/a> your code from the MJML markup into standards-compliant HTML & CSS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From there, you can test your newsletter<\/a><\/strong> to see how it looks in various clients. Although, based on the compatibility charts<\/a>, I\u2019d say MJML is a fantastic choice for all modern email.<\/p>\n

Note you do need to have some knowledge<\/a> of frontend development to properly use MJML. It runs its own proprietary templating language<\/strong> and converts that into HTML, but you should understand what your code is doing, too.<\/p>\n

Once you have some MJML written, you just click the \u201cView HTML\u201d link<\/strong> above the preview pane. This displays the entire raw HTML<\/strong>, so you can copy\/paste and use that for your own template.<\/p>\n

Anyone brand new to email newsletters should start with a framework. There\u2019s no good reason to code everything by hand, so MJML is a huge time saver.<\/p>\n
