However, you might end up getting your sitemap cached too and that\u2019s not a good idea.<\/p>\n<p>The XML sitemap should always reflect the latest posts and urls of your website so search engines get the latest version of whatever\u2019s updated.<\/p>\n<p>In this post, I\u2019d like to share with you how to exclude and prevent XML sitemaps from being cached (unintentionally) by some of the most popular WordPress Caching plugins.<\/p>\n<h2>W3 Total Cache<\/h2>\n<p>In order to exclude the XML Sitemap from caching using <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/w3-total-cache\/\">W3 Total Cache plugin<\/a>, here\u2019s what you do:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to <strong>Performance &gt; Page Cache.<\/strong><\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/prevent-wordpress-sitemap-cache\/w3totalcache.jpg\" width=\"536\" height=\"126\" alt=\"w3 total\"><\/figure>\n<li>Scroll down to the section labeled \"<strong>Never cache the following pages<\/strong>\". Then, enter the following lines in the box:<\/li>\n<pre>[a-z0-9_\\-]*sitemap[a-z0-9_\\-]*\\.(xml|xsl|html)(\\.gz)?\r\n([a-z0-9_\\-]*?)sitemap([a-z0-9_\\-]*)?\\.xml\r\n<\/pre>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"note\"><strong>Note:<\/strong>\n  If you are using Database Caching, you need to add the same lines to the \"<strong>Never cache the following pages<\/strong>\" under <strong>Performance Database Cache<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>  If you are using Minification,  open <strong>Performance<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Minify<\/strong> and enter the same lines in the field saying \"<strong>Never minify the following pages<\/strong>\".<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least, go to <strong>Performance<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Browser Cache<\/strong> and ensure the same lines are in the \"<strong>404 error exception list<\/strong>\" section.<\/p>\n<h2>WP Super Cache<\/h2>\n<p>In order to exclude the XML sitemap from caching with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/wp-super-cache\/\">WP Super Cache plugin<\/a>, here what you do:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>WP Super Cache<\/strong>. Open <strong>Advanced tab<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/prevent-wordpress-sitemap-cache\/wp-supercache.jpg\" width=\"521\" height=\"317\" alt=\"wpsupercache options\"><\/figure>\n<li>Look for the section labeled \"<strong>Add here strings (not a filename) that forces a page not to be cached..<\/strong>.\" and enter the following:<\/li>\n<pre>[a-z0-9_\\-]*sitemap[a-z0-9_\\-]*\\.(xml|xsl|html)(\\.gz)?\r\n([a-z0-9_\\-]*?)sitemap([a-z0-9_\\-]*)?\\.xml<\/pre>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>WP Rocket<\/h2>\n<p>If you use the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-rocket.me\/\">WP Rocket plugin<\/a> and you want to exclude the XML sitemap from caching, here\u2019s what you do:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings &gt; WP Rocket &gt; Advanced Options.<\/strong><\/li>\n<p>  <fogure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/prevent-wordpress-sitemap-cache\/wp-rocket.jpg\" width=\"978\" height=\"265\" alt=\"wp-rocket\"><\/fogure><\/p>\n<li>Scroll down to the block with the words: \"<strong>Never cache the following pages<\/strong>\". Enter these lines in the field:<\/li>\n<pre>[a-z0-9_\\-]*sitemap[a-z0-9_\\-]*\\.(xml|xsl|html)(\\.gz)?\r\n  ([a-z0-9_\\-]*?)sitemap([a-z0-9_\\-]*)?\\.xml <\/pre>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"note\"><strong>Note:<\/strong>\n  Make sure to clean your cache each time you make these changes using these three plugins.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Using caching plugins is probably the easiest way to to speed up your WordPress site.
