Therefore, <strong>users have been paying for third-party apps<\/strong> just to sync multiple Google Drive accounts simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p>However, in my view, paying for a feature that should have been offered by Google years ago (like Dropbox) doesn\u2019t feel right. And so, after many experiments, I have managed to come up with simple solutions that allow you to <strong>sync multiple accounts simultaneously without using a third-party app<\/strong>. You use it...\t\t\t\t\t\t<span>Read more<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Use different user account<\/h2>\n<p>You just need to <strong>create another user account in Windows<\/strong> and open another instance of Google Drive desktop app under the new account\u2019s privileges.<\/p>\n<p>Windows allows you to <strong>open another instance of most apps in the same account<\/strong> as long as it\u2019s opened under the privilege of a different user account.<\/p>\n<p>Below I\u2019ll show you <strong>how to create a new user account<\/strong> and then open another instance of Google Drive and syncs data.<\/p>\n<p>For demonstration, I\u2019ll be using Windows 10. If you are on Windows 7 or 8, then follow these instructions on <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/13951\/windows-create-user-account\">Microsoft support page<\/a> instead. <strong>Make sure you create an administrator account<\/strong> so you may have full access to the data.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to Windows <strong>Settings<\/strong> from the Start Menu and click on <strong>Accounts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Now select <strong>Family & other people<\/strong> from the left panel and click on <strong>Add someone else to this PC<\/strong> under <strong>Other people<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/add-new-user.jpg\" alt=\"add new user\" width=\"800\" height=\"440\"><\/figure>\n<li>Another window will open up where you click on <strong>I don\u2019t have this person\u2019s sign-in information<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/dont-have-sign-in-information.jpg\" alt=\"I don't have this person's sign-in information\" width=\"800\" height=\"774\"><\/figure>\n<li>Afterward, click on <strong>Add a user without a Microsoft account<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/add-user-with-microsoft-account.jpg\" alt=\"Add a user without a Microsoft account\" width=\"800\" height=\"774\"><\/figure>\n<li>On the next page, provide username and password for the new account and click <strong>Next <\/strong>to create the account.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/provide-new-user-details.jpg\" alt=\"provide username and password\" width=\"800\" height=\"774\"><\/figure>\n<li>To set this account as administrator, click on <strong>Change account type<\/strong> below the created account.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/change-account-type.jpg\" alt=\"Change account type\" width=\"800\" height=\"536\"><\/figure>\n<li>Now select <strong>Administrator<\/strong> in the <strong>Account type<\/strong> drop-down menu and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/select-administrator.jpg\" alt=\"select account type\" width=\"800\" height=\"525\"><\/figure>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Run another instance of Google Drive desktop app<\/h2>\n<p>If Google Drive isn\u2019t open already, then launch it and sign in with your primary account. You can <strong>only open another instance of Google Drive from the Google Drive execute file<\/strong> in the file explorer. Either manually access it from the <b>Program files<\/b>, or right-click on the <strong>Google Drive Start menu<\/strong> shortcut and select <strong>Open file location<\/strong> in <strong>More<\/strong> option. Afterward, follow the below instructions.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Hold the <span class=\"key\">Shift<\/span> key and <strong>right-click<\/strong> on the Google Drive app shortcut.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll see a new option in context menu named <strong>Run as different user<\/strong>, click on it.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/run-as-different-user.jpg\" alt=\"Run as different user\" width=\"800\" height=\"284\"><\/figure>\n<li>Now enter the username and password of the new user account you created and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/provide-login-details.jpg\" alt=\"enter the username and password\" width=\"800\" height=\"488\"><\/figure>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Another instance of Google Drive app will open up and you\u2019ll see its icon in the taskbar.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/two-google-drive-apps-running.jpg\" alt=\"another Google Drive app running\" width=\"800\" height=\"418\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Set up sync on  secondary Google Drive app<\/h2>\n<p>As this instance of Google Drive app is <strong>opened under a different user account<\/strong>, things may seem a bit different. Let me guide you through the sync process:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the second instance of the app and <strong>sign in using the secondary Google account<\/strong> that you want to sync.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/login-secondary-google-account.jpg\" alt=\"sign in using the secondary Google account\" width=\"800\" height=\"535\"><\/figure>\n<li>Now click on <strong>CHOOSE FOLDER<\/strong> and you\u2019ll be able to select a folder from the PC that you want to sync.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/choose-folder.jpg\" alt=\"CHOOSE FOLDER\" width=\"800\" height=\"358\"><\/figure>\n<li>If you want to access data of your primary account, then go to <strong>Users <\/strong>in Windows drive and open your primary user account. When prompted, click on <strong>Continue<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/access-primary-account-data.jpg\" alt=\"access data of your primary account\" width=\"800\" height=\"619\"><\/figure>\n<li>Just provide the password\/pin for the primary account and you\u2019ll be able to access its data.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/data-accessed.jpg\" alt=\"primary account data accessed\" width=\"800\" height=\"619\"><\/figure>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once you have selected the folders you want to sync, click on <strong>Next<\/strong> and finish up the syncing process.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/finishing-syncing-setup.jpg\" alt=\"finish up the syncing process\" width=\"800\" height=\"680\"><\/figure>\n<p>Your <strong>data in the secondary Google Drive account will be saved in a separate Google Drive folder<\/strong> listed in the new user account\u2019s folder. And anything you add in the synced folders will automatically sync.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/multiple-instances-google-drive-free\/secondary-google-drive-account-syncing.jpg\" alt=\"Google account syncing\" width=\"800\" height=\"393\"><\/figure>\n<p>You can <strong>repeat the above process to sync as many Google Drive accounts as you like<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important note:<\/strong> Make sure you go through the above setup process when you launch the second instance of Google Drive app. For some reason, <strong>Windows won\u2019t allow you to set it up from the same user account in the future<\/strong> (more on it below).<\/p>\n<h2>Drawbacks<\/h2>\n<p>By now, both of your Google Drive accounts will be running and your data will be synced. However, there are <strong>few limitations<\/strong> that you should be aware of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can\u2019t open or manage preferences of the secondary Google Drive app from the primary user account. <strong>Nothing happens when you left or right click on it<\/strong> (the primary account works fine). If you want to change your preferences in the future, you\u2019ll have to sign out and <strong>log in to the secondary user account<\/strong> and tweak Google Drive settings from there.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll have to <strong>manually launch the secondary Google Drive app<\/strong> every time you\u2019ll restart your PC.<\/li>\n<li>If you want to <strong>quit the secondary Google Drive App<\/strong>, you\u2019ll have to do it from the Task Manager (<span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">Shift<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">Esc<\/span>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Concluding thoughts<\/h2>\n<p>So with this little setup, you can use as many Google Drive accounts on your PC as you like <strong>without spending a single penny<\/strong> or using a third-party app. If we look at the drawbacks, they are very minor and <strong>won\u2019t limit your usage in any way<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you manage to find a way to make this process even smoother, do share with everyone else in the comments below.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many people have multiple Google Drive accounts \u2013 say, for work and personal use \u2013 but Google doesn\u2019t let you run two instances of Google Backup and Sync app on a single PC.
