But not many of us know how to do so and for all those who don\u2019t, I\u2019ve created this post to inform you <strong>all about finding WiFi passwords in both Windows and MacOS<\/strong>. You can either use:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Command Prompt commands.<\/li>\n<li> A dedicated third-party tool.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>1. Finding Wi-Fi passwords with Command Prompt<\/h3>\n<p>Press <span class=\"key\">Windows<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">R<\/span> keys and type <code>cmd<\/code> in the <strong>Run <\/strong>dialog to open the Command Prompt window.<\/p>\n<p>Now run the below-mentioned command:<\/p>\n<p><code>netsh wlan show profiles<\/code><\/p>\n<p>This will <strong>list all the WiFi SSIDs saved in your Windows PC<\/strong>. You\u2019ll need to refer to this list to find the password of the respective SSID using the next command.<\/p>\n<p>Now <strong>enter the below-mentioned command<\/strong> and replace <code>Wi-Fi SSID<\/code> section with the <em>actual WiFi SSID<\/em> of which you want to know the password of.<\/p>\n<p><code>netsh wlan show profile name=<em>WiFi SSID<\/em> key=clear<\/code><\/p>\n<p>You will <strong>see a bunch of information about the respective WiFi connection<\/strong>. Here the WiFi password will be written next to <strong>Key content<\/strong> section.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/finding-wifi-passwords-windows-mac\/wi-fi-key.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"580\" alt=\"wifi key\"><\/figure>\n<h3>2. Finding WiFi passwords with third-party tool<\/h3>\n<p>The above method is a good native way to see Wi-Fi passwords, but it can be a little cumbersome. A more convenient method is to use a <strong>third-party tool that will show all the passwords and SSIDs in a single interface<\/strong> without any extra effort.<\/p>\n<p>For this purpose, I use my favorite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hongkiat.com\/blog\/nirsoft-utilities\/\">Nirsoft utility<\/a> \u2013<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nirsoft.net\/utils\/wireless_key.html\">WirelessKeyView<\/a>. It is completely free and also very easy to use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Install WirelessKeyView<\/strong> and launch the app. Without any intervention, all the passwords will be revealed to you along with their SSID. You can copy this data and even <strong>export it to a file to move all the passwords to another PC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/finding-wifi-passwords-windows-mac\/wifikeyview.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"315\" alt=\"wirelesskey view\"><\/figure>\n<h2>MacOS<\/h2>\n<p>In MacOS, it\u2019s <strong>rather easy to view all the saved WiFi passwords<\/strong>. However, you need to make sure you login with an administrator account and know the username and password of the account.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how to access saved WiFi passwords on Mac:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>They are stored in the Keychain Access app so you need to open it from <strong>Applications<\/strong> inside <strong>Utilities<\/strong> folder.<\/li>\n<li>Here select <strong>System<\/strong> from the left panel and then select <strong>Passwords<\/strong> in the <strong>Category<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n<li>You will see a list of all the saved WiFi networks along with their SSID and kind. <strong>Double-click on the network of which you want to reveal the password<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Options for that specific network will open up. Here, check the checkbox next to <strong>Show password<\/strong> and authenticate by providing the username and password of the current user account. The <strong>password will be revealed after successful authentication<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/finding-wifi-passwords-windows-mac\/show-password-in-mac.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"520\" alt=\"wifi passwords in mac\"><\/figure>\n<p>Though there are other methods to <strong>access the saved WiFi passwords<\/strong> in your iOS or Windows computer, however, the ones that I\u2019ve mentioned here are the <strong>easiest and simplest<\/strong>.
