Just weeks before Microsoft\u2019s Build 2017 was supposed to take place, the company held a special #MicrosoftEDU event where it introduced two new products<\/strong> that are targeted towards the education industry. The first is the all new Surface Laptop, while the second is a new variant of Windows 10 called Windows 10 S.<\/p>\n

Microsoft Surface Laptop \u2013 Microsoft\u2019s Chromebook competitor <\/h3>\n

We begin this article by taking a look at the Surface Laptop, Microsoft\u2019s newest hardware offering after the Surface Studio<\/a>. Unlike previous hardware developed by Microsoft, the Surface Laptop is a machine that doesn\u2019t sport many gimmicks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Like the name implies, this device is a traditional laptop<\/strong>. As such, it doesn\u2019t have the 360-degree rotating screens or detachable keyboards that many 2-in-1s have these days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Despite the lack of a fully-rotational hinge<\/strong>, the screen of the Surface Laptop is nothing to sneeze at. This device comes with a 13.5-inch PixelSense touch display, which is the display that was used on the Surface Studio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The display itself has an aspect ratio of 3:2 and a resolution of 2256 x 1504<\/strong>. The screen supports both the Surface Pen and the new Surface Dial, although those need to be acquired separately<\/strong> as the Surface Laptop doesn\u2019t ship with them.<\/p>\n

Much like other laptops, the Surface Laptop comes in a many configurations<\/strong> in order to suit the user\u2019s needs. The laptop can pack either a 7th Gen (Kaby Lake) Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, has up to 16GB of RAM<\/strong>, and comes with an SSD that can have up to 512GB of storage space. The laptop will run on the new Windows 10 S operating system, but we\u2019ll get to that a bit later.<\/p>\n

As for the other parts of the Surface Laptop, the device comes with an Alcantara-covered keyboard<\/strong>, which is the same material that was used on the Surface Pro 4\u2019s Type Cover. Ports wise, the Surface Laptop comes with a USB 3.0 port, a headphone jack, a Windows Hello-compatible camera<\/strong>, and a mini DisplayPort.<\/p>\n

On the peripherals side of things, apart from the aforementioned Surface Pen and Surface Dial, Microsoft has also introduced the Surface Arc Mouse, a Bluetooth mouse that ditches the standard left and right buttons for a single touch-sensitive panel instead<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
