Cheesy stock photography is on the way out being replaced by quality stock photos<\/strong>, many of which can be downloaded for free<\/strong>. Yes, there are plenty of paid photo sites but the free ones are easier to use<\/strong> and more accessible<\/strong> with a $0 price tag.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the newest sites in this arena is FFCU<\/a><\/strong>, an abbreviation of Free For Commercial Use<\/strong>. It\u2019s not the catchiest name but the content is phenomenal.<\/p>\n

At the time of this writing, FFCU has almost 1,000 images<\/strong> available for download. All photos submitted to the site reside under a CC0 license<\/a><\/strong> which means completely free public domain images for any purpose<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You can basically do whatever you want<\/strong> with these images and use them in websites, posters, graphic designs, or whatever. No attribution is required<\/strong> but it\u2019s always appreciated.<\/p>\n

One strange thing about the design is the confusing category structure<\/strong>. It currently has 10 different categories<\/strong> and they certainly don\u2019t cover<\/strong> the whole gamut of photography:<\/p>\n

  10. Urban<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Why \u201cThe Alps\u201d has its own category I cannot say. But for a library of almost 1,000 free CC0 images, I can\u2019t complain either. One other thing I noticed is that a few pages on the site use German in the title (like the Search\/Not found page).<\/p>\n

    I know designers are always looking for that next great resource<\/strong>, so FFCU<\/a> might be worth a peek. It\u2019s a niche library<\/strong> with strange categories<\/strong> but the photos are all very good quality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    And, they look like genuine photos<\/strong> which is a refreshing change from the cheesy stock photography we\u2019re all familiar with.<\/p>\n
