Photoshop Etiquette<\/a><\/strong> is a free online guide that can help you find a productive workflow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This online guide covers Photoshop\u2019s basic features<\/strong> explaining how they work<\/strong> and how to properly utilize them<\/strong> for a production workflow. It breaks down into six chapters<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

  2. Layers<\/li>\n
  3. Assets<\/li>\n
  4. Type<\/li>\n
  5. Effects<\/li>\n
  6. Quality<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Note this guide is not<\/em> a complete intro<\/strong> to designing in Photoshop. It assumes you already know the basics of the software<\/strong> and have the skills to create mockups on your own<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Photoshop Etiquette takes that raw knowledge and helps you organize the process<\/strong> for a streamlined approach to UI design<\/strong>. For example, the first chapter on files<\/a> shares tips to organize your folders and individual files<\/strong> used in a project.<\/p>\n

    For instance, it\u2019s too easy to make small edits<\/strong> and save that file<\/strong> as something like my_site_mockup_FINAL.psd<\/code>. This is perhaps the worst method<\/strong> for organizing files, and as pointed out in the guide you\u2019ll have much better luck using version control<\/a><\/strong>. But you can also organize files manually by versions (ie. v1, v2, v3) if you\u2019re confident enough to distinguish between them<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    While browsing the site, you\u2019ll notice that after each tip there\u2019s a little yellow info icon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Click that to get a pop-up<\/strong> with more information related to that specific suggestion<\/strong>. You won\u2019t find these icons after every tip, but the ones you do find have great info.<\/p>\n

    Photoshop Etiquette is small<\/strong> and with only 6 chapters it can seem brief<\/strong>, too. However, it\u2019s constantly being updated<\/strong> and you can even submit ideas<\/a><\/strong> to be included in the guide.<\/p>\n

    The site\u2019s creator Dan Rose also published a book<\/a> titled \u201cResponsive Web Design with Adobe Photoshop\u201d<\/strong>. It\u2019s published by Adobe Press, so it\u2019s a quality title<\/strong> and it can help you dive into Photoshop for web design by learning proper workflows<\/strong> right from the start.<\/p>\n
