It\u2019s a fairly complex feature but also useful when you <strong>have varying items in a container<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A quantity query can <strong>change\/update CSS properties<\/strong> based on <strong>pre-defined limits for child elements<\/strong>. For example, if you have <strong>more than three items<\/strong> in a list you might make the font smaller to save room. You need to <strong>select from three dropdown menus<\/strong> that customize your quantity query. They work like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Selector<\/strong> \u2013 which child element(s) should be counted<\/li>\n<li><strong>Query type<\/strong> \u2013 choose between \u201cat most\u201d, \u201cat least\u201d, or a combo of \u201cat most\u201d & \u201cat least\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amount<\/strong> \u2013 total number of items to filter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This seems confusing in code but it\u2019s a really simple concept. Quantity queries let you apply CSS properties <strong>based on the total number of child elements<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>So you can <strong>add certain CSS styles<\/strong> when there\u2019s, say, <em>at least<\/em> 4 child elements (4 or more). Or, you could <strong>add styles only when<\/strong> there\u2019s <em>at most<\/em> 4 child elements (0-4 children).<\/p>\n<p>The combo selector lets you define <strong>exactly how many minimum & maximum children<\/strong> are necessary to display certain CSS properties.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/quantity-query-builder\/02-custom-qq-query.jpg\" alt=\"queries box\" width=\"1000\" height=\"381\"><\/figure>\n<p>In the example on the screenshot above, I\u2019ve set the <strong>total \u201cat most\u201d items<\/strong> to 2. This means when I have 0, 1, or 2 children the blocks are red. If I add one more to get 3 children then all the blocks turn blue.<\/p>\n<p>If you have no idea what\u2019s going on you can <strong>click the small information box<\/strong> in the sidebar.
