Below are <strong>10 new Gboard features<\/strong> that you will surely love.<\/p>\n<h2>1. Built-in Google search<\/h2>\n<p>The most talked about feature, <strong>Gboard now has a built in G button to quickly search your queries on Google Search<\/strong>. The search option is specially created for Gboard and it\u2019s completely different in functionality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>G button is not simply a shortcut to Google Search<\/strong>, meaning no additional apps will be opened when you will search through it. Instead, the search will show <strong>answer to your query using Google instant answers<\/strong>. If there is no answer available, then a link to the top result is shown.<\/p>\n<p>This search is basically created to <strong>help you access important information<\/strong> such as <strong>location, news, weather or a recent event<\/strong> and quickly share it with the person you are chatting with. For example, you can search for the location where you want to rendezvous, and share it with your friends.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing is also very easy as <strong>Gboard offers a special \"Share\" button that automatically pastes all the important searched content<\/strong> in the text field you are typing in.<\/p>\n<p>To use the Google Search inside Gboard:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tap on the big <strong>\"G button\"<\/strong> on the top left corner of the keyboard and you will see the search field. <strong>Type your query and hit enter to see the results<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<li>The <strong>search suggestions will also show up on top<\/strong> for you to easily choose from. <\/li>\n<li>If you get multiple results (like website articles), then <strong>tapping on one will enter its link in the text field<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li> If there is a single result, like a location or definition of a word, <strong>press the \"Share\" button below to enter it in the text field<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/new-gboard-features\/01-Gboard-Features-Integrated-Google-Search.jpg\" alt=\"integrated google search\" width=\"800\" height=\"474\"><\/figure>\n<p>Furthermore, you will also see <strong>3 quick access buttons<\/strong> when you will tap on the \"G button\". These buttons allows you to <strong>quickly change themes, access keyboard settings and switch to \"One Hand\" mode<\/strong> (more on it later).<\/p>\n<h2>2. Spacebar as a Trackpad<\/h2>\n<p>We all know <strong>how difficult it is to place the tiny cursor in the right spot<\/strong> when you need to amend a mistake while typing. Gboard solves this problem by<strong> allowing you to control the cursor using the spacebar key<\/strong>. Simply swipe your finger left or right on the spacebar to move the cursor in the respective direction.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, you cannot swipe up or down to move the cursor between lines, <strong>but you can still use the old method of tapping<\/strong> to quickly place the cursor anywhere you like.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Quickly delete multiple words<\/h2>\n<p><strong>For quickly deleting one letter at a time<\/strong>, the delete button in the keyboard does a great job. However, <strong>if you want to delete the whole sentence<\/strong>, the delete button takes 1-2 seconds just to delete a single line. <strong>Gboard allows you to quickly get rid of multiple words with a single swipe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When you want to delete multiple words:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Swipe left from the delete key (tap and swipe) <strong>and all the words will start highlighting<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<li>Once the required words are highlighted, <strong>raise your finger from the screen and they will be deleted<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<li>In the portrait mode, a single swipe usually allows you to delete 5-8 words. <strong>You can quickly swipe multiple times to delete more words.<\/strong> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>4. Search for Emojis and GIFs<\/h2>\n<p>Gboard has a <strong>new built-in search for emojis and GIFs<\/strong> that you can use to quickly find the right one. Tap on the <strong>\"Emojis\" button<\/strong> at the bottom right corner to access emojis. Here you should see a search bar on top. <strong>Tap on it and enter the type of emoji you need<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For example, <strong>you can type \"happy\" to see emojis expressing happiness, or type \"sad\" to see emojis showing sadness<\/strong>. You can use this search bar to enter the emotion you are feeling and see quick results. Same goes for GIFs, but <strong>the GIF feature will only work in text fields where GIFs are allowed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/new-gboard-features\/02-Gboard-Features-search-emoji.jpg\" alt=\"search emoji\" width=\"800\" height=\"474\"><\/figure>\n<p>You can also use <strong>names or contents inside the emoji or GIF to search for it<\/strong>. For example, you can type \"water\" to see emojis and GIF with water in them.<\/p>\n<h2>5. Multilingual typing<\/h2>\n<p>With Gboard, <strong>you can type in multiple languages<\/strong> without needing to switch between them. You just need to <strong>specify the languages you want to use<\/strong> and Gboard will <strong>automatically detect and offer predictions<\/strong> according to the language.<\/p>\n<p>For example, <strong>if you like typing in English and Spanish simultaneously<\/strong>, then whenever you will enter a Spanish word while typing English, it will start predicting Spanish words. However, you will have to manually switch between keyboards <strong>if the secondary language is very different from the primary<\/strong>, such as English and Arabic.<\/p>\n<p>To specify the languages you want to use:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tap on the <strong>\"G button\"<\/strong> and then tap on the <strong>\"Gear\" icon<\/strong> to access Gboard settings.<\/li>\n<li> Here tap on <strong>\"Languages\"<\/strong> and you will see all the supported languages (over 120).<\/li>\n<li> Tap the <strong>button next to the ones you want to use<\/strong> to enable them. <\/li>\n<li>The languages will be <strong>automatically downloaded and available<\/strong> in Gboard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/new-gboard-features\/03-Gboard-Features-select-languages.jpg\" alt=\"select language\" width=\"800\" height=\"474\"><\/figure>\n<h2>6. Glide Typing<\/h2>\n<p>This is <strong>not a new function, but a rather enhanced one<\/strong>. Swipe typing was always available in Google Keyboard, but with <strong>Gboard many improvements have been made<\/strong>. Now the animations are much smoother and their accuracy has also been enhanced.<\/p>\n<p>The glide typing feature is also much faster now and <strong>can handle your hyper swipe-typing speed<\/strong>. If you are interested in swipe-typing, then give Gboard another try. You will definitely be pleased.<\/p>\n<h2>7. Add a permanent Number Row<\/h2>\n<p>Although this feature is already offered by other keyboard apps, but Google has now finally added it in its stock Android keyboard. You can now <strong>add a permanent number row at the top of the keyboard to quickly enter numbers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In order to enable it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings<\/strong> from the <strong>\"G button\"<\/strong> and tap on <strong>\"Preferences\"<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li> Here enable the option <strong>\"Number Row\"<\/strong> and you will see a number row at the top of the keyboard. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/new-gboard-features\/04-Gboard-Features-see-number-row.jpg\" alt=\"see rumber rows\" width=\"800\" height=\"711\"><\/figure>\n<h2>8. Use One Hand Mode<\/h2>\n<p>It can be a big problem to <strong>type with one hand on a large display<\/strong> Android phones, such as <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lg.com\/us\/cell-phones\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LG V20<\/a>. If you have such a device or have smaller hands, then you can <strong>use Gboard\u2019s One Hand mode to easily type with one hand<\/strong>. One Hand mode will <strong>pin the keyboard at one corner of the screen<\/strong> (left or right) so you could easily type with all keys in reach.<\/p>\n<p>For enabling One Hand mode:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Tap on the <strong>\"G button\"<\/strong> and click on <strong>\"One Hand\"<\/strong> mode icon in the middle<\/li>\n<li>One Hand mode will be enabled, and you can <strong>tap on the expand button on the side of it to switch back to normal mode<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/new-gboard-features\/05-Gboard-Features-one-hand-mode.jpg\" alt=\"one hand mode\" width=\"800\" height=\"711\"><\/figure>\n<h2>9. Capitalize words easily<\/h2>\n<p>Usually you need to <strong>tap the \"Shift\" key<\/strong> and tap the letter to add a capitalized letter. However, with Gboard you can simply<strong> tap on the \"Shift\" key and swipe to the letter that you want to capitalize and it will typed in its capital form<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/new-gboard-features\/06-Gboard-Features-capitilize-words.jpg\" alt=\"capitalize words\" width=\"800\" height=\"711\"><\/figure>\n<h2>10. Quickly enter symbols<\/h2>\n<p>Similar to capitalization, you can also quickly <strong>enter symbols by swiping from \"?123\" key<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Simply <strong>tap on the \"?123\" button and swipe upward<\/strong>. The page will immediately change to the symbols page. <\/li>\n<li>Now <strong>leave the swipe over the symbol that you want to use<\/strong> and it will be entered, and you will be <strong>automatically switched back to the main keyboard<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This methods is definitely a whole lot faster.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/new-gboard-features\/07-Gboard-Features-add-symbol.jpg\" alt=\"add symbols\" width=\"800\" height=\"711\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Some final thoughts<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Gboard is definitely a great improvement upon the Google Keyboard<\/strong> and it should entice many people to switch back to the default Android keyboard. I have personally moved to Gboard from Swiftkey,<strong> simply because it is lighter and the Google Search feature is definitely a keeper<\/strong>.
