Passwords are a pain<\/strong> \u2014 they have to be good, secure, not easy to crack, and at the same time, the kind we can remember easily. If you have ever experienced the inconvenience of forgetting a password, the pain becomes real. That\u2019s why you need help from the experts.<\/p>\n

1 \u2013 Passwords based on a full sentence<\/h2>\n

One way to create a secure password is to base the password on a full sentence<\/strong>. Speaking to Business Insider, RedTeam Security consultant Kurt Muhl<\/strong> believes that taking the first letter<\/a> from each word in a full sentence will give you a password that satisfies all the requirements: letters in uppercase and lowercase, numerals plus special characters.<\/p>\n

For example, the sentence \u201cI bought my house for one dollar\u201d can be converted into \u201cIbmhf$1\u201d.<\/p>\n

This way, you can avoid dictionary passwords which is what according to Muhl, hackers go after first<\/strong>, as those are easier to be cracked.<\/p>\n

2 \u2013 Leverage on passphrases<\/h2>\n

Yet another technique to use when you think of a password is to opt for passphrases<\/strong>. Instead of simple words, Diceware\u2019s Arnold Reinhold believes that long, memorable passphrases are far more effective than short password<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

One such example can be seen in an XKCD comic strip<\/a> that utilises the phrase \u201ccorrect horse battery staple\u201d.<\/p>\n

Reinhold believes that passphrases that are six words long can only be cracked by a well-funded organization<\/strong>, while phrases that are seven words long are uncrackable by today\u2019s standards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The only drawback is that this doesn\u2019t work with websites that don\u2019t support long passwords.<\/p>\n

3 \u2013 Use Password Managers <\/h2>\n

Finally, if you have too many passwords to remember, opt for password managers instead. Applications such as 1Password<\/a><\/strong>, KeePass<\/em> or LastPass<\/em> will generate random passwords of variable length, all of which are stored in a secure manner and you can get your passwords<\/a> anytime you want.<\/p>\n

As these applications synchronizes your password across a number of devices, you\u2019ll have easy access to your password whenever you want.<\/p>\n

While this method isn\u2019t foolproof, security experts believe that password managers are far more effective than having users create secure passwords of their own.<\/p>\n
