Once set, it stops your Mac from booting from any drive other than the default one without a password. This means no one can boot your Mac into Recovery Mode, Single User Mode, Target Disk Mode, or from an external drive.<\/p>\n<p>Using a Firmware password along with an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hongkiat.com\/blog\/encrypt-mac-folder\/\">encrypted drive<\/a> makes your data almost impossible to access. It also prevents anyone from swapping out the drive to use or sell your Mac.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Set Up a Firmware Password<\/h2>\n<p>To set a Firmware password, you\u2019ll need to start your Mac in Recovery Mode. To do this, hold down <span class=\"key\">CMD<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">R<\/span> while your Mac is starting up.
