You can then type out and read all your messages on your PC or laptop.<\/p>\n<p>To use WhatsApp Web, on your PC or laptop, <strong>go to <a href=\"https:\/\/web.whatsapp.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">web.whatsapp.com<\/a> in a web browser<\/strong>. On  your mobile device, <strong>open WhatsApp<\/strong> and <strong>click the Options<\/strong> button at the top right hand side, then<strong><\/strong> tap<strong> WhatsApp Web<\/strong> from the options. To log out of all connected devices, just go back to the <strong>Options<\/strong> &gt; <strong>WhatsApp Web<\/strong> page and choose <strong>Log out from all computers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Transfer Files to\/from PC<\/h2>\n<p>The good thing about WhatsApp Web is that you receive on your PC whatever you receive on your mobile via WhatsApp. This makes it a pretty good tool to <strong>transfer images or screenshots from your mobile to your desktop<\/strong> without the use of cables.<\/p>\n<p>Just send the image to any of your friends on your mobile, then on your PC, open your WhatsApp Web to retrieve the image file.<\/p>\n<h2>Backup WhatsApp Conversations to Email<\/h2>\n<p>You can keep a copy or backup a conversation to your email. To do so:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the chat you want to save.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Options &gt; More &gt; Email chat<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Follow the on-screen instructions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Note that you need to backup each conversation individually and while you got <strong>two options<\/strong> to send the conversation (<strong>with or without media<\/strong>), you can only send up to 40,000 messages max.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/backup-conversations-to-email.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"592\" alt=\"Backup Conversations to Email\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Backup Chats to Local or Cloud Storage<\/h2>\n<p>Apart from email, backups can be done to storage as well. To backup to your device\u2019s local storage as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hongkiat.com\/blog\/free-tools-to-build-personal-cloud\/\">cloud storage<\/a>, i.e., Google Drive on Android platform and iCloud on iOS devices:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open WhatsApp<\/li>\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings &gt; Chats &gt; Chat backup<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Tap <strong>BACK <\/strong><strong>UP<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/backup-chats-to-local-or-cloud-storage.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"560\" alt=\"Backup Chats to Local or Cloud Storage\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Know when Message got Read<\/h2>\n<p>You already know that grey ticks means that the message has been delivered and blueticks indicate that the message has been read. Actually, there is an option that <strong>gives you the exact timestamp<\/strong> of when a message has been delivered and when it has been read.<\/p>\n<p>To see the <em>Message info<\/em> screen and check the sent message\u2019s details, <strong>open a chat<\/strong>, <strong><\/strong> <strong>tap and hold<\/strong> any sent message, then <strong> <\/strong> <strong>tap the info (or i)<\/strong> button from the action bar (top).<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/know-when-message-got-read.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"889\" alt=\"Know when Message got Read\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Star or Mark Messages as Favorite<\/h2>\n<p>WhatsApp brings search feature to look for messages easily, but then too it\u2019s better to <strong>mark important messages as favorite<\/strong> to get to them quickly when required.<\/p>\n<p>To mark a message as favorite: just <strong>long press on any individual message<\/strong>, then <strong>tap on the star icon<\/strong> in the action bar at the top of the app\u2019s screen.<\/p>\n<p>To see all your starred messages, click on <strong>Options<\/strong> in the conversation list screen<strong> &gt; <\/strong>choose <strong>Starred messages<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/star-or-mark-messages-as-favorite.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"592\" alt=\"Star or Mark Messages as Favorite\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Configure the Privacy Options<\/h2>\n<p>The Last Seen feature shows when you were last on WhatsApp. For those of you who don\u2019t want this to be enabled, you can change the settings at <strong>Options &gt; Settings<\/strong><strong> &gt; Account &gt; Privacy<\/strong>. Then, choose whether you want your last seen, profile picture and status to be seen by <em>Everyone<\/em>, My <em>contacts<\/em> or <em>Nobody<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/configure-the-privacy-options.jpg\" width=\"643\" height=\"563\" alt=\"Configure the Privacy Options\"><\/figure>\n<p>You can also remove <em>read receipts<\/em> by tapping on <strong>Options &gt;<\/strong> <strong>Settings &gt; Account &gt; Privacy<\/strong> then<strong> <\/strong>unchecking the <strong>Read receipts<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<h2>BCC or Broadcast Messages<\/h2>\n<p>WhatsApp also lets you send messages to a group of people while still protecting each other\u2019s identity. Unlike adding them all into a group first, where everyone\u2019s contact numbers are exposed to people outside their contact list, the BBC option does not reveal recipient contact numbers.<\/p>\n<p>To create a  broadcast list, go to the<strong> conversation list screen &gt; Options button &gt; New broadcast<\/strong>, then  choose the recipients for the new broadcast. Click<strong> Done<\/strong>. Now you can send messages to this broadcast list like how you send messages to any contact or group.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/bcc-or-broadcast-messages.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"882\" alt=\"BCC or Broadcast Messages\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Tag People and Quote Messages<\/h2>\n<p>Tagging is now possible in group conversations using @, followed by the name (according to what you name the person in your Contacts).  The tagged person <strong>gets the notification<\/strong> even if he has muted notifications for that group.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/tag-people-and-quote-messages.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"594\" alt=\"Tag People and Quote Messages\"><\/figure>\n<p>Apart from tagging people, you can also <strong>quote messages to show you\u2019re replying to<\/strong> that particular message. To do this, <strong>tap and hold a message<\/strong>, <strong><\/strong> <strong>click on reply<\/strong> in the action bar, <strong><\/strong> <strong>type your message and click the send<\/strong> button to reply to that message.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/tag-people-and-quote-messages.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"594\" alt=\"Tag People and Quote Messages\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Direct Reply and Popup Notifications<\/h2>\n<p>The app supports the latest notification feature in Android \u2013 Direct Reply. Basically, you can reply to any incoming WhatsApp messages even when you are outside the app. By enabling the <strong>popup notication<\/strong>, you can reply to the message from the notification bar.<\/p>\n<p>Go to the app\u2019s <strong>Settings &gt; Notifications &gt; Popup notification<\/strong> and select the most suitable option.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/direct-reply-and-popup-notifications.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"889\" alt=\"Direct Reply and Popup Notifications\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Minimize Mobile Data Usage<\/h2>\n<p>WhatsApp\u2019s voice and video calls are great features but they <strong>utilize a lot of bandwidth<\/strong> in order to deliver excellent voice and video call quality. If you want to save on your mobile data usage, you can go to <strong> Settings &gt; Data usage &gt; Call settings <\/strong>&gt; check <strong>Low data usage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/minimize-mobile-data-usage.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"590\" alt=\"Minimize Mobile Data Usage\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Hide Notifications from Lockscreen<\/h2>\n<p>Notifications can pop up even when your phone is locked. To prevent your messages from being read by people who have no access,  disable the lockscreen notifications by opening Android\u2019s <strong>Settings &gt; Apps &gt; WhatsApp &gt; Notifications <\/strong>and toggle off <strong>Lock Screen Notification<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/hide-notifications-from-lockscreen.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"593\" alt=\"Hide Notifications from Lockscreen\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Hide Chats from Conversation List<\/h2>\n<p>If you <strong>don\u2019t want to delete a chat thread<\/strong> (aka conversation) but don\u2019t want just anyone to read it either, you can hide it with the archive option. <strong>Tap and hold a particular chat<\/strong> and click the <strong>archive<\/strong> button in the action bar to archive that conversation.<\/p>\n<p>You can view all archived chats by <strong>scrolling to the bottom<\/strong> in the conversation list screen then click <strong>Archived chats<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/hide-chats-from-conversation-list.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"593\" alt=\"Hide Chats from Conversation List\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Mute Chats and Block Contacts<\/h2>\n<p>Group chats can really be annoying when there are too many active conversations coming in. Every new message added to the chat delivers a notification and after a while, this can really build up.<\/p>\n<p>To help you <strong>deal with such annoying situations<\/strong>, there are the <strong>mute notifications <\/strong>and<strong> block contacts<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p>To mute a conversation, <strong>open an individual or a group chat<\/strong>, <strong>tap Options<\/strong> button <strong><\/strong> go to<strong> Group info<\/strong> <strong>&gt; Mute<\/strong> and set mute options. You also get an option to turn off notifications while muting a group in Android.<\/p>\n<p>You can block a contact (and not a group) by <strong>opening the particular chat<\/strong>, <strong>clicking Options<\/strong> &gt; <strong><\/strong> <strong>More<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Block<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/mute-chats-and-block-contacts.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"565\" alt=\"Mute Chats and Block Contacts\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Hide WhatsApp Media from Gallery<\/h2>\n<p>Thanks to various people  forwarding  messages all over, you might be getting a lot of the images and videos in your gallery. If you don\u2019t want  incoming media on WhatsApp to show up in the Gallery, hide them using this simple trick.<\/p>\n<p>Open<strong> File Manager<\/strong> and browse to <strong>Internal storage <\/strong> <strong>WhatsApp &gt; Media<\/strong> and <strong>Rename <\/strong>\u201c<em>WhatsApp Images<\/em>\u201d and \u201c<em>WhatsApp Video<\/em>\u201d folders to \u201c<em>.WhatsApp Images<\/em>\u201d and \u201c<em>.WhatsApp Video<\/em>\u201d respectively (notice the dot in start).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> This trick is applicable only for Android, not for iOS platforms. And this will hide the images and videos from your phone\u2019s gallery but you can see them in your WhatsApp as well as using a file manager.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/hide-whatsapp-media-from-gallery.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"593\" alt=\"Hide WhatsApp Media from Gallery\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Use Multiple WhatsApp Accounts<\/h2>\n<p>Most of the Android users use a dual-sim device, which in turn increases the <strong>urge to use two WhatsApp accounts<\/strong> using their two numbers \u2013 say one for official use and other for personal purpose.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, there exists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hongkiat.com\/blog\/android-apps-manage-multiple-social-messaging-accounts\/\">various apps that let you <\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hongkiat.com\/blog\/android-apps-manage-multiple-social-messaging-accounts\/\">manage multiple social accounts on the same device<\/a><\/strong> and using these, you can run two WhatsApp accounts.<\/p>\n<p>With Android <strong>Lollipop allowing multiple users<\/strong> on the same device, one can now operate multiple WhatsApp accounts without any third-party app. Do note that he\/she <strong>won\u2019t receive notifications from both of the accounts<\/strong> at a single time.<\/p>\n<p>To do this, go to Android\u2019s <strong>Settings &gt; Users &gt; Add user<\/strong>. After you have created a <strong>new user<\/strong>, <strong>log in<\/strong> using the new account,<strong> install WhatsApp<\/strong> on this account and use it with the second number.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/use-multiple-whatsapp-accounts.jpg\" width=\"1000\" height=\"593\" alt=\"Use Multiple WhatsApp Accounts\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Recover Deleted Chats or Messages<\/h2>\n<p>WhatsApp backups your chats every day at 2 AM (or your set time), so if you <strong>delete anything dated a day earlier<\/strong>, anything dated prior to 2 AM the same day, then <strong>you can recover them<\/strong> easily.<\/p>\n<p>To recover your deleted WhatsApp messages, first <strong>uninstall<\/strong> and <strong>reinstall WhatsApp<\/strong>, then <strong>sign up with the same number<\/strong> you used WhatsApp with previously. You will be prompted that a backup has been found. Tap <strong>Restore<\/strong> to start the restoration process. Once done, you will find all your messages back \u2013 even the deleted ones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Do understand that though this procedure brings back any message dated prior to 2 AM but deleted after 2 AM today,  you will <strong>lose the latest messages received after 2 AM<\/strong> on the same day.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/recover-deleted-chats-or-messages.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"377\" alt=\"Recover Deleted Chats or Messages\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Share Documents and Other Files<\/h2>\n<p>WhatsApp, after a recent update, lets you <strong>share different types of media content,<\/strong> for example, documents, presentations, etc. To attach natively supported formats inside any chat or conversation, <strong>click on the attachment<\/strong> button in the action bar and tap <strong>Document<\/strong>. Then choose the file and <strong>click SEND<\/strong> when asked for confirmation to share that file.<\/p>\n<p>The app, however, <strong>doesn\u2019t support other file formats<\/strong> like executables, archives and various others. Fortunately, there\u2019s a trick that involves using <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.dropbox.android&hl=en\">Dropbox<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.ampelement.cloudsend\">CloudSend<\/a> to <strong>share files of any format<\/strong> via WhatsApp.<\/p>\n<p>After installing these from the Google Play Store, <strong>open CloudSend <\/strong>and<strong> authorize it<\/strong> to use your Dropbox. Now open the <strong>File Manager<\/strong> and choose a file. <strong><\/strong> tTap <strong>Share<\/strong> and choose <strong>CloudSend<\/strong>. This will upload your file to Dropbox and provide options to <strong>Send<\/strong> or <strong>Copy<\/strong>. <strong><\/strong>Select <strong>Send<\/strong>. <strong><\/strong>Tap <strong>WhatsApp <\/strong>to share the file.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/whatsapp-tips-tricks\/share-documents-and-other-files.jpg\" width=\"919\" height=\"555\" alt=\"Share Documents and Other Files\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Schedule Messages on WhatsApp<\/h2>\n<p>If you need to schedule messages on WhatsApp, tough luck. There is not built-in option to do that, but you can use <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=infinitylabs.com.whatsappscheduler&hl=en\">Scheduler for WhatsApp<\/a> to do so if you\u2019re on Android.<\/p>\n<p>Download the app from the Play Store, then go to your phone\u2019s <strong>Settings &gt; Accessibility<\/strong> and turn on <strong>WhatsApp Scheduler<\/strong> under <strong>Services.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Then after <strong>open Scheduler for WhatsApp<\/strong>, <strong>tap +<\/strong> floating button, then make your selections.
