You will see two new actions: \u201cSlice it!\u201d and \u201cRetinize It!\u201d Here\u2019s what each action does:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Slice it \u2013<\/strong> This action slices layers into web-compatible images.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Retinize It! \u2013<\/strong> This action performs two tasks: first, it saves images at their normal size; then, it scales the images to double their size (2x) for high-definition screens.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/retinize-it-ios-optimized-images\/ps-action-toolbar.jpg\" alt=\"Photoshop action toolbar displaying Retinize It actions\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\"><\/figure>\n<p>To test Retinize It, we used a <a href=\"https:\/\/dribbble.com\/shots\/544084-Climacons\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">weather icon set<\/a> by Adam Whitcroft. We selected one of the layers and ran the Retinize It! action.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/retinize-it-ios-optimized-images\/run-action.jpg\" alt=\"Running Retinize It action in Photoshop\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\"><\/figure>\n<p>The first process saved the image at its normal size.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/retinize-it-ios-optimized-images\/save-normal.jpg\" alt=\"Image saved at normal size\" width=\"500\" height=\"150\"><\/figure>\n<p>After saving the first image, the second action scaled the image to 2x for the Retina display. As shown in the screenshot below, the icon was scaled up by 200%.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/retinize-it-ios-optimized-images\/image-compare.jpg\" alt=\"Comparison of normal and scaled image\" width=\"500\" height=\"150\"><\/figure>\n<p>We inserted <strong>@2x<\/strong> in the filename before the file extension. Apple uses this suffix to pick up higher-resolution images and serve them on Retina displays. You can also use <a href=\"https:\/\/imulus.github.io\/retinajs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Retina.js<\/a>, which performs a similar task by serving images with the <strong>@2x<\/strong> suffix on high-definition screens.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/retinize-it-ios-optimized-images\/save-retina.jpg\" alt=\"Image saved for Retina display\" width=\"500\" height=\"150\"><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> It is highly advisable to use <strong>Shape or Smart Object layers<\/strong> to retain image quality.<\/p>\n<h2>Final Thoughts<\/h2>\n<p>Retinize It is a valuable tool for web designers, reducing the workload involved in slicing and creating images for high-resolution use.
