Then you can just simply follow the wizard as shown in the image above. Block in-app purchases & disable app installation & deletion<\/h2>\n<p>Just a couple of days ago I saw the news about some parents being billed $16,000 because their son just kept on buying in-game items on mobile. Nightmare, right? But this can be easily avoided.<\/p>\n<p>Just follow the steps below:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings<\/strong> and tap <strong>Screen Time<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>By default, <strong>Content & Privacy Restrictions<\/strong> is probably turned off. Turn this option on.<\/li>\n<li>Tap on the first option for <strong>iTunes & App Store Purchases<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Tap <strong>In-app Purchases<\/strong> and choose <strong>Don\u2019t Allow<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>And while you\u2019re at it, require the password each time an app is installed or deleted for extra precaution.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>As easy as that. Set a scheduled downtime for apps to limit app usage<\/h2>\n<p>A lot of parents limit their child\u2019s screen time, but oftentimes it\u2019s just a <i>verbal agreement<\/i> that often slips away from the mind of the parents. So the 2-hour screen time becomes 3, 4, 5 hours. There are also the sneaky ones who keep on using their devices well past bedtime.<\/p>\n<p>But you can actually <strong>configure your iOS device to just simply stop working during a specific hours<\/strong>, or when the daily limit has been reached.<\/p>\n<p>To do this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings<\/strong> and choose <strong>Screen Time<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>You will see <strong>5 different options<\/strong> here that you can utilize to secure your child\u2019s device:\n    <strong>Downtime<\/strong> \u2013 you can set a schedule for when apps on the Allowed list can be used.\n    <strong>App Limits<\/strong> \u2013 choose either per application or by app category and limit how many minutes or hours each of them can be used.\n    <strong>Communication Limits<\/strong> \u2013 set a schedule and define who can be called, FaceTimed, messaged \u2013 allow for Everyone, Contacts Only, or Contacts & Groups with at Least One Contact.\n    <strong>Always Allowed<\/strong> \u2013 while you are setting restrictions, allowing a blanket approval for specific apps will also be helpful, especially during emergencies. For example, Messages and FaceTime, as well as Maps.\n    <strong>Content & Privacy Restriction<\/strong> \u2013 this enables you to restrict all types of content deemed inappropriate for a certain age.\n  <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure class=\"screenshot-mobile-portrait\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/tricks-make-ios-device-kid-friendly\/child-friendly-ios-device-2.jpg\" alt=\"schedule downtime\" width=\"1000\" height=\"805\"><\/figure>\n<h2>3. Limit in-game interaction with strangers<\/h2>\n<p>To me, this is one of the most useful things for parents who are trying to give freedom to their kids, but at the same time child-proofing their phones from the harsh elements online.<\/p>\n<p>Believe it or not, there are a lot of applications and games geared towards children that are being utilized by some adults who don\u2019t have any good intentions towards the target user base.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if a multiplayer game allows for connecting with nearby users based on your location, then it will be easy to determine the general location of the player. In which case, it could be dangerous to leave your child unattended. Adding friends and private messaging in-game is possible too.<\/p>\n<p>In which case, these might pose a considerable security risk to your kids.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the things you can restrict under <strong>Settings &gt; Screen Time &gt; Content Restrictions &gt; Game Center<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"screenshot-mobile-portrait\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/tricks-make-ios-device-kid-friendly\/child-friendly-ios-device-5.jpg\" alt=\"limit in-game\" width=\"1000\" height=\"805\"><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Multiplayer Games<\/strong> \u2013 allow kown friends, don\u2019t allow at all, or allow for everyone.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adding Friends<\/strong> \u2013 a lot of games allow their users to add friends, which is a kind of a social network of its kind.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Connect with Friends<\/strong> \u2013 a lot of apps can pull the device\u2019s contact list in order to connect with them through the game.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Screen Recording<\/strong> \u2013 disable capturing the screen and sound.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nearby Multiplayer<\/strong> \u2013 as I mentioned above, you can disable this to prevent your kids from broadcasting their approximate location.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Private Messaging<\/strong> \u2013 need I say more?.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Profile Privacy Changes<\/strong> \u2013 a lot of applications allow users to set their privacy to private, show their name, contact info, address, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Avatar & Nickname Changes<\/strong> \u2013 you can set your kid\u2019s nickname and Avatar so they won\u2019t have to type in their real name and upload their actual photo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pretty neat features, huh?<\/p>\n<h2>5. Disable Changes to Device Settings and Features<\/h2>\n<p>One thing you definitely don\u2019t want happening is your kid changing the settings of their device, especially for privacy, passcode, and the like, since that\u2019s like enabling them to circumvent the restrictions you placed above.<\/p>\n<p>To do this, simply:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Head over to <strong>Settings<\/strong> and tap <strong>Screen Time<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Inside <strong>Content & Privacy Restrictions<\/strong>, scroll down to <strong>Allow Changes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure class=\"screenshot-mobile-portrait\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/tricks-make-ios-device-kid-friendly\/child-friendly-ios-device-6.jpg\" alt=\"disable changes to device\" width=\"1000\" height=\"805\"><\/figure>\n<p>Here you can allow or disallow passcode changes, account-level changes, and the like.
