They just don't...\t\t\t\t\t\t<span>Read more<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Custom Keyboard Shortcuts For MS Word<\/h2>\n<p>Out of the 3 Office products we\u2019ll be featuring here, only Word has the option to use <strong>custom keyboard combinations<\/strong> to trigger an action. Keys that we suggest to use would be a combination of <span class=\"key\">Ctrl<\/span>, <span class=\"key\">Shift<\/span> and <span class=\"key\">Alt<\/span> followed by a letter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are some examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Start Word 2013 and navigate to the Options section by clicking on File &gt; Options.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/custom-shortcut-key-office-2013\/word-options.jpg\" alt=\"Word 2013 Options\" width=\"500\" height=\"364\"><\/figure>\n<p>Then navigate to <strong>Customize Ribbon<\/strong> and you\u2019ll find \u2018Keyboard shortcuts\u2019; click on the <strong>Customize<\/strong> button next to it.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/custom-shortcut-key-office-2013\/word-shortcut.jpg\" alt=\"Word Keyboard Shortcuts\" width=\"500\" height=\"365\"><\/figure>\n<p>Let\u2019s first explain the things you see on this new window that pops up.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Commands<\/strong> are the actions you normally do on Word, for example Bold and Italics. These commands are in <strong>Categories<\/strong> based on the <strong>tabs <\/strong>in Word, e.g. the \u2018Home\u2019 tab or \u2018Page Layout tab.<\/p>\n<p>This arrangement means you\u2019ll easily find the command you want to customize as a keyboard shortcut.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/custom-shortcut-key-office-2013\/word-customize.jpg\" alt=\"Customize Keyboard Word\" width=\"500\" height=\"392\"><\/figure>\n<p>We\u2019ll now demonstrate how to add a keyboard shortcut to the <strong>Strikethrough command<\/strong> on Word. You\u2019ll notice there is no shortcut key for Strikethrough \u2014 the \u2018Current keys\u2019 box is empty.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/custom-shortcut-key-office-2013\/word-no-shortcut.jpg\" alt=\"No Shortcut Key\" width=\"500\" height=\"392\"><\/figure>\n<p>Click on the \u2018<strong>Press new shortcut key<\/strong>\u2018 box and personalize a keyboard combination shortcut. In this case, we used <span class=\"key\">Alt<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">S<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>You can see that the combination <span class=\"key\">Alt<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">S<\/span> is not taken because it\u2019s <strong>unassigned<\/strong>. This is important as you do not want to double assign a combination. After that click on <strong>Assign<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/custom-shortcut-key-office-2013\/word-keyboard.jpg\" alt=\"Keyboard Shortcut\" width=\"500\" height=\"392\"><\/figure>\n<p>You can see all the assigned shortcuts you have for each command in the \u2018Current keys\u2019 box. If it is empty that means you have yet to assign a shortcut to the command. Click <strong>Close<\/strong> when you\u2019re done.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/custom-shortcut-key-office-2013\/word-assigned-key.jpg\" alt=\"Assigned Key\" width=\"500\" height=\"392\"><\/figure>\n<p>Now whenever you highlight text with your mouse, you can press <span class=\"key\">Alt<\/span> + <span class=\"key\">S<\/span> to Strikethrough it. Again, this is not just limited to Strikethrough but any command you set with a keyboard shortcut combination.<\/p>\n<h2>Custom Keyboard Shortcuts For PowerPoint & Excel<\/h2>\n<p>There are some limitations creating shortcuts on PowerPoint and Excel as you don\u2019t get as much flexibility compared to Word. However, adding keyboard shortcuts is simpler for both PowerPoint and Excel.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s use the example of the AutoSum button. When you need the values of certain fields added up together, you use the AutoSum function. It\u2019s handy to have a keyboard shortcut assigned to that if you are doing your bookkeeping, for instance.<\/p>\n<p>To add a keyboard shortcut to AutoSum, right-click on it and select \u2018Add to Quick Access Toolba\u2019r.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/custom-shortcut-key-office-2013\/excel-shortcut.jpg\" alt=\"Excel Shortcut\" width=\"500\" height=\"220\"><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019ll be added to the top left corner of Excel, in the same row as the \u2018Save\u2019 and \u2018Undo\u2019 icons.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/custom-shortcut-key-office-2013\/excel-icon.jpg\" alt=\"Excel Quick Icon\" width=\"500\" height=\"243\"><\/figure>\n<p>To activate this shortcut, all you have to do is hit the <span class=\"key\">Alt<\/span> key on your keyboard. You\u2019ll see a <strong>number corresponding to the shortcut<\/strong>, in this case it\u2019s the number 4 that activates the AutoSum command.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/custom-shortcut-key-office-2013\/excel-key.jpg\" alt=\"Excel Key\" width=\"500\" height=\"240\"><\/figure>\n<p>You can do the same thing to any other command or action you need to use on both PowerPoint and Excel (this also works for Word).
