And you can get that look using <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/t\/app-oblytile-tile-creator-for-all-programs.1899865\/\">OblyTile<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-win8-metro-tiles\/w8-metro.jpg\" alt=\"Windows 8 Metro\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\"><\/figure>\n<p>First thing\u2019s first, the icons you see above are works from users of deviantART. OblyTile only sets up your tiles; you have to provide the icons or images for the tile. Microsoft has unveiled the new Windows 8...\t\t\t\t\t\t<span>Read more<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Download Your Resources<\/h2>\n<p>The first thing to do is to <strong>download the latest version of OblyTile<\/strong>; during the time of this writing, the version used is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/t\/app-oblytile-tile-creator-for-all-programs.1899865\/\">OblyTile v0.8.6<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We also used icon packs from these two users of deviantART: <strong>soulrider95<\/strong> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.deviantart.com\/lrv94\/art\/Windows-8-Tiles-For-Obly-Tile-335198454?offset=10\">lrv94<\/a>. Their packs include a variety of icons of the latest popular programs and games in ICO and PNG formats.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-win8-metro-tiles\/Windows-8-Custom-Tiles.jpg\" height=\"291\" width=\"500\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Getting Started With OblyTile<\/h2>\n<p>Run OblyTile (no installation required) and you\u2019ll see a simple user interface. Here\u2019s where you set up your own tiles with just a few simple steps. All you have to do is specify the program name (<strong>Tile Name<\/strong>), locate the <strong>program path<\/strong>, and <strong>add 2 images<\/strong> for the tile.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-win8-metro-tiles\/oblytile2.jpg\" alt=\"OblyTile\" width=\"500\" height=\"342\"><\/figure>\n<p>Start by entering a <strong>Tile Name<\/strong>; it can be unique and entirely up to you. Having a unique Tile Name would <strong>make searching easier<\/strong> on the Windows 8 Start Menu. If you don\u2019t like seeing the tile names, you can choose to <strong>Hide Tile Name<\/strong> by ticking the box.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-win8-metro-tiles\/oblytile-tilename.jpg\" alt=\"Tile Name\" width=\"500\" height=\"468\"><\/figure>\n<p>When you choose to hide it, the Tile Name, which is usually under the image icon, will not show.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-win8-metro-tiles\/tilename.jpg\" alt=\"Tile Name\" width=\"500\" height=\"170\"><\/figure>\n<p>The next step is \u2018Program Path\u2019. Here, you can choose to <strong>pin a program (.exe file)<\/strong> or a <strong>folder<\/strong> to the Windows 8 Start Menu. With this setup, clicking on your custom tile would open the program or folder which you have selected.<\/p>\n<p>You can ignore the text box next to \u2018Program Arguments\u2019; leave it blank.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-win8-metro-tiles\/oblytile2.jpg\" alt=\"Folder\" width=\"500\" height=\"342\"><\/figure>\n<p>The final step is to set the Tile Image and Tile Small Image. Pick the corresponding image icons from your downloaded resources. Upload the same tile images to both \u2018Tile Image\u2019 and \u2018Tile Small Image\u2019. <strong>You need not resize them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do note that <strong>only PNG images are supported<\/strong>. You can use a program like Paint to convert ICO files found in the downloaded resources to PNG images.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-win8-metro-tiles\/images.jpg\" alt=\"Images\" width=\"500\" height=\"468\"><\/figure>\n<p>If the PNG image is transparent, you can customize it with a <strong>Tile Background Color<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-win8-metro-tiles\/transparent-icons.jpg\" alt=\"Tile Background Colors\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\"><\/figure>\n<p>You can also set the \u2018Tile Settings\u2019 to start your program to \u2018Run as administrator\u2019 or in a \u2018Single Instance\u2019. If you don\u2019t want to set this, just click on <strong>Save Tiles<\/strong> and your new custom tiles have been set up.<\/p>\n<h2>Managing Created Tiles<\/h2>\n<p>You can also <strong>manage the tiles<\/strong> that you have created with OblyTile by clicking on the Tile Manager button located at the top.
