Create Custom Action in Context Menu<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch <strong>Automator<\/strong> app. You can either do a quick Spotlight search for <em>Automator<\/em>, or find the app inside <strong>Macintosh HD<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Applications<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Automator.app<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-mac-right-click-menu\/1-launch-automator.jpg\" alt=\"launch Automator\" width=\"1923\" height=\"638\"><\/figure>\n<li>Select <strong>Quick Action<\/strong> in Automator app.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-mac-right-click-menu\/2-select-quick-action.jpg\" alt=\"select Quick Action\" width=\"2248\" height=\"1501\"><\/figure>\n<li>Search for \"<strong>Rename Finder Item<\/strong>\" in the search box, then <strong>drag it to the right panel<\/strong>. You can also find it under <strong>Library<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Files and Folders<\/strong> on the left panel.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-mac-right-click-menu\/3-find-rename-finder-item.jpg\" alt=\"find Rename Finder Item\" width=\"2111\" height=\"959\"><\/figure>\n<li>Click \"<strong>Add<\/strong>\" if this dialogue pops up.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-mac-right-click-menu\/4-click-add.jpg\" alt=\"click Add\" width=\"1799\" height=\"1033\"><\/figure>\n<li>In \"<strong>To<\/strong>\" under Copy Finder Items, <strong>select the location you want the output to be saved<\/strong>. Go to File &gt; Save, give it a name, then click <strong>Save<\/strong>. A Quick Action named <em>Replace Space with Dash<\/em> has been successfully created.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"test\">Test the Custom Action<\/h3>\n<p>Now, let\u2019s test it to see if it works.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Create a file on your Desktop<\/strong>. It can be an image or any doc format.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-mac-right-click-menu\/1-filename-with-space.jpg\" alt=\"filename with space\" width=\"975\" height=\"509\"><\/figure>\n<li><strong>Left click<\/strong> once to select it,  then <strong>right click to access the context menu<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to \"<strong>Quick Actions<\/strong>\" and select \"<strong>Replace Space with Dash<\/strong>\".<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-mac-right-click-menu\/3-replace-space-with-dash.jpg\" alt=\"Replace space with Dash action\" width=\"1185\" height=\"485\"><\/figure>\n<li>Check the newly created file. Create Keyboard Shortcut for Custom Action<\/h2>\n<p>You can also create a keyboard shortcut for this action, making executing it even faster! To create a keyboard shortcut, do the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to <strong>Apple<\/strong> &gt; <strong>System Preferences<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Keyboard<\/strong>, then go to the <strong>Shorcuts tab<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-mac-right-click-menu\/keyboard-shortcut-tab.jpg\" alt=\"Shortcuts tab\" width=\"1324\" height=\"852\"><\/figure>\n<li>Click <strong>Services<\/strong>, then <strong>look for the created Quick Action<\/strong> on the right panel.<\/li>\n<li>Click once to <strong>select the quick action<\/strong>, then click \"<strong>Add Shortcut<\/strong>\".<\/li>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/customize-mac-right-click-menu\/4-create-shortcut.jpg\" alt=\"add shortcut\" width=\"1287\" height=\"757\"><\/figure>\n<li><strong>Enter the shortcut key<\/strong> once, and hit <span class=\"key\">Return<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And now, you can perform the custom Quick Action even faster with your keyboard shortcut.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"delete\">3. Delete Custom Actions in Context Menu<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019ve created too many items on your right-click context menu and wish to declutter them, you can too.
