To the right is a column called \u2018Renamed Filename\u2019, where you will be able to review the new filename if you change it. The review is in real-time mode.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/quicktips\/addedfiles.jpg\" alt=\"Added Files\" height=\"339\" width=\"500\"><\/figure>\n<p>Note that the filename as shown above are numbered in sequence with the same prefix <em>IMG_<\/em>, so changes can be done easily, but it can get tricky if existing filenames have long and\/or randomized numbers.<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of styles to change your filenames with NameChanger and in this tutorial, we will focus on changing filenames in \u2018Sequence\u2019 mode.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Hide Extension (Optional)<\/h3>\n<p>Some files may be in .png or .jpg format, but to make it easier for you to read and rename the filename, you need to hide the extensions.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Click on \u2018Options\u2019 to open the options window.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Tick on \u2018Hide Extensions\u2019. Once ticked, you will see that the \u2018Original Filenames\u2019 are now listed without extensions.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/quicktips\/options.jpg\" alt=\"options\" height=\"339\" width=\"500\"><\/figure>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>2. Change mode to Sequence<\/h3>\n<p>The default mode to change filenames is \u2018Replace First Occurrence With\u2019 as selected at the dropdown menu in the application window. Sequence Panel<\/h3>\n<p>At the Sequence panel, there are several items you can control. Let\u2019s say our objective here is to rename the filenames from <em>IMG_XXX<\/em> to <em>Perth_XX<\/em>. For the benefit of our readers, we shall split these filenames into two parts: the prefix <em>IMG_<\/em>, and sequence <em>XXX<\/em>, so this tutorial can be more easily understood.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019re only 4 items you need to touch on the Sequence panel:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Firstly at the \u2018Sequence Name\u2019, rename the files to <em>Perth_<\/em>. This will replace the prefix <em>IMG_<\/em> all at once (although not before you complete the changes).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>For \u2018Number of Digits\u2019, select \u201902\u2019 for two digits. The other options are 1, 003, 0004 and so on.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>For the section \u2018Starting at\u2019, toggle the value to 1, so your image sequence will start from 01 instead of 00.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>At the Location tab, toggle the selection to \u2018Replace Entire Filename\u2019, and this will replace the original name <em>IMG_001<\/em> and replace it with <em>Perth_01<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/quicktips\/sequencechange.jpg\" alt=\"Sequence Panel change\" height=\"300\" width=\"500\"><\/figure>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>When the changes are done, you can preview the new filenames in your application window under the \u2018Renamed Filename\u2019 column.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.hongkiat.com\/uploads\/quicktips\/changedfilenames.jpg\" alt=\"Changed Filenames\" height=\"339\" width=\"500\"><\/figure>\n<p>The new filenames has now been changed to the prefix <em>Perth_<\/em> with a two-digit sequence.<\/p>\n<h3>4.
