Some of us post updates every few hours, sharing every little detail of our lives. Others prefer to keep a low profile and just watch what others are posting. We can even group users based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hongkiat.com\/blog\/types-of-facebook-updates\/\">what they usually post<\/a>, like life complaints, deep thoughts, or photos.<\/p>\n<p>But no matter how we use it, we\u2019re all on Facebook to share information. Some people have over a thousand \u2018friends\u2019, but we know that not all friends are the same. Sometimes, you only want certain people to see your posts. But unless you\u2019re always <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hongkiat.com\/blog\/facebook-privacy-settings-you-should-know\/\">adjusting your privacy settings<\/a>, most of your \u2018friends\u2019 will see most of your posts. But in a \u2018large community\u2019, it\u2019s easy to lose that close feeling because there are so many people. This is when smaller groups start to form, and people outside these groups can feel left out.<\/p>\n<p>This is similar to Facebook. The more \u2018friends\u2019 we have, the less we interact with most of them. You probably have a few \u2018friends\u2019 who regularly comment on your posts or chat with you. These are likely your close friends offline too.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of your \u2018friends\u2019 on Facebook don\u2019t really matter. They\u2019re just random people who see your posts. You see their posts too, but you probably don\u2019t care much about them, just like they probably don\u2019t care much about your posts.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, having fewer \u2018friends\u2019 might be better because your interactions with them will be more meaningful. It\u2019s not enough to just see their posts, we want to interact with them. Just like in real life, we spend time with people we\u2019re comfortable with. It\u2019s the same online.<\/p>\n<h2>Sharing and Privacy<\/h2>\n<p>Gossip spreads fast in social networks. Nothing spreads news faster than word-of-mouth. But this can be a problem when your information is shared with people you don\u2019t know. If you complain about work or clients, you could get in trouble if the wrong person hears about it. The more \u2018friends\u2019 you have, the easier it is for this to happen. The information you share with your \u2018friends\u2019 is what makes Facebook valuable. Just like you filter the news in the paper, you can filter your newsfeed to only see what interests you.
