Wordpress Plugin to Increase Alexa Rankings

The wonderful thing about Wordpress community is, whatever ideas you can think of, there’s plugin for it. Few months ago I was thinking, how about including http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect? before all hyperlinks. This will definitely boost the Alexa ranking, because before content reaches destination, they are sent to Alexa to create awareness.

Today, reading from an entry written by Everton of ConnectedInternet, I found a plugin that allows you to do so. This plugin add http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect? automatically to all internal links within your blog. Here’s the authors description on the plugin.

The plugin scans your entire page (header, sidebar and all) and replaces any internal links (links that include your domain, like â€˜iamnotashamed.net’ for my site) with the Alexa Redirect link, which simply means it adds: â€œhttp://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?” to the front of your link url. For Example, in the html:

<a href=”blog.iamnotashamed.net/about-ariah-fine/”>

becomes

<a href=”http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?http://blog.iamnotashamed.net/about-ariah-fine/”>

Is this a good idea?

I certainly don’t think so. Although this sounds really promising on boosting Alexa, but will this affects google indexing? How will Google treat links that starts with redirect.alexa.com? I’ll leave the question to you. Also, by doing that, I assume Alexa will be your direct referral source on links, this can potentially screwed the accuracy of your statistics readings, especially if you are stats freak like me. I want to know exactly who click from where to where.

I’m not writing to encourage the installation of this plugin, but rather creating awareness of such.

Thanks for the link. I should have mentioned it was just a concept attempt. I definitely understand your concerns with it.
My thought was that I would activate the plugin for a few days every month, that way all my regular readers pass through, click a couple links and get recorded.

Any thoughts on how I could tweak it to make it more useful?

AF: Alexa Ranking is not too accurate if you ask me, however nothing is. With plugin like this to boost Alexa ranking, its encouraging and thus resulting accuracy to gone from bad to worst. That’s just my stand :-)

Actually the redirects and the Alexa button does not improve Alexa rankings at all. I know a TON of blogs say this, but it is a misconception.

good to see so many people interested in alexa ranks, i run an alexa auto surf website, surf sieve, where the installation of toolbar is must before the surfing starts, hope it helps!

This plugin is no good, since it screws with your links, and in this way diminishing your Google ranking and search results. A better options is to make the Alexa redirecting JavaScript-powered: in this way the HTML will not be modified, and the redirects will still work. i don’t think alexa rank counts for much any hows. most people who use the alexa toolbar are into tech sites so its hard for any non tech sites to get a good alexa ranking.

its a shame that most techies use the alexa ranking to measure a sites popularity though.

I think Kaloyan’s concept is very nice and effective though… So hungkiat, your concerns would be over also about google ranking… just my 5 cents…

i recommend a modification to the plugin you can find here that doesn’t screw up your google rankings.
