How RentACoder pays
RentACoder provides 3 different methods in terms of payment: Snail mail check, Western Union and Paypal. Here are some information regarding payment, directly quoted from RentACoder.com
Snail mail check
Recommended if: Your jobs for the month total $100 or more and you can be paid in U.S. dollars.
How it works: At then end of the month a check is mailed to you via ordinary mail. A small postage and handling fee is assessed to pay for this service. To keep your costs lower, you can choose not to have the check mailed if your account balance is less than a certain $ threshold amount. Note that all payments are made in U.S. dollars, so if you wish payment in another currency, you are responsible for the conversion.
Western Union
Recommended if: Your jobs for the month total $100 or more and you are not located in the United States, or you want payment immediately.
How it works: At then end of the month we send your money to Western Union. You can then pick it up at one of over 101,000 Agent locations in over 187 countries and territories. (To find the location nearest you, go to Western Union). For information on pickup, see the Western Union Pickup FAQ for details.
How much does this cost? Western Union levies a fee depending on the amount of money you are being sent (see the Western Union Fee Calculator for details) In addition, we add a small handling fee to pay for the additional work required to use this service. To keep your costs lower, you can choose not to have the check mailed if your account balance is less than a certain $ threshold amount. Note that all payments are made in U.S. dollars, so if you wish payment in another currency, you are responsible for the conversion.
Paypal
Recommended if: Your jobs for the month total less than $100 or if you want funds converted from U.S. dollars to your local currency.
How it works: Payment is sent to your PayPal account. PayPal is the world’s most popular online payment system…and if you don’t have an account, you can signup for an account for free. If you live in a non-United States country, Pay Pal automatically converts the money to the local currency of a number of countries for a small fee. Please note that if your monthly payment is over $2,000.00, PayPal may require you to sign up for a special business account and assesses a 2.2% fee. In this case, you may wish to consider one of the other options. (Also, please note that the amount may vary from country to country…check with PayPal.com to make certain before choosing).

From my personal experience RAC is a very risky place to work in. I bid an extremely low price for a big project hoping to get a good rating and more subsequent projects. However, the way that it turned out was that the buyer kept on expanding the scope of the project and it would never end. Frustrated I put the project into arbitration, but lost because of some feature that I tried to do but was not able to do completely. Overall, I lost about a months effort to nothing and most probably the buyer got a lot more than the initial project work for free.
On RAC, you need to be very careful about clueless buyers who will make completing projects a pain.
I would advise coders to stick with an hourly payment cycle on something like odesk.com and stay away from RAC.
