No doubt optimizing and blending your AdSense block into contents will help increase the click-through rates and thus increase earnings. However some AdSense publishers went too far and their AdSense blocks are intend to trick users to click on them. Here’s one website that perfectly fits the criteria of attempting to trick its users to click on the ads.

This is just a page with direct link to a .mp3 file but the interface sure looks far more complicated that it should. On the upperfold, it kinda mis-lead users to click the ads by placing AdSense block after [Description: Get your file below]. Meanwhile on the lowerfold, a AdSense Link Unit in the center, and the tiny download link is placed in between 2 rectangular AdSense block. It requires real careful and accurate clicking or you’ll end up clicking on the ads. As for the paragraphs of contents, it’s really something irrelevant to the page. I think they are there just to trick search engines for some SEO benefits.
Now that’s a really evil download page. Have you seen worst?

Haha! I hate websites like that, I imagine a lot of people will be clicking on it by accident ;)
ReplyHardi March 25th, 2008
I’m sure a new visitor will click the ads at the first time before they know about it…

Has google suspend his account? Wonder how long can someone get away with this kind of practice?
Replyhongkiat March 25th, 2008
The webmaster spent too many thoughts on placing the download links. They should be removed from Google Adsense as publishers, but there’s too many publishers out there, too many for Google to monitor.

Wow… This is nice. :P

ReplyPenang Tua Pui March 26th, 2008
in order to get Google to have spotlight on them, it is pretty easy…
help him to click more la…. every time u went into the page… just click, refresh and click again..
the CPM will increase and this will auto trigger the Adsense monitor system…
am I more evil? just to put this trick on someone who is totally over… :P
But still another way to earn for the owner if it really provide information
For me.. if the page did provide good info, it will get me come back for another round and will click to rewards the writer. But not every time.
Content killed.

Two parties will be pissed: Google and the downloaders.

I wont be really afraid of banning, but I’ll be more afraid of click-afraid by disgruntled visitors
ReplyDr. Hu May 15th, 2008
Very evil indeed!

Okay that’s just evil.
Whatever happened to providing good content and making ads be an acceptable nuisance instead of the focal point of your site?
