I’ve heard that Nuffnang has plans to try this new method but was the news to myself until I see this in action. Now, thanks to heads up from Lilian I get to see it on Daniel’s blog. We did not see Nuffnang announcing this, thus I’m not sure what the exact term this type of blog advertisement is. You can call it blog takeover, theme ads, etc. I call it background takeover (for now) as the ads works by taking over your background color/image.
To understand how much this type of ad changes your blog, see a comparison of Daniel’s blog - the before and after.

New approach to blog advertisement
I mean we’ve seen this type of approach on magazines, public transports like busses, trains and even airplanes but for blogs, it’s probably the first. The type of ad works by placing a JavaScript on your blog that’s directly linked to a fixed background, so advertiser can take control of your background.
It is indeed an interesting approach, however I guess this requires much scarification to the current look and feel, and I’d assume the pay must be good.
What you think, like the concept?

Great idea but not all bloggers will use it unless the payment is ‘good’.

if it makes money, then i’ll say yes. =)

cool idea. But…. somehow I don’t quite like it. Seems to crowd the page. If the background was less intrusive then maybe it would work better.
What’s happening now is that the whole page looks like an advertisement.

i would say unless you have a very cool backgrounds and blog specific content targeting. I think they can always check out gamespot.com cuz their background takeover advertising is damn nice. I think another method is to customized background ad for their clients, as in, anything custom made will have to pay more, and when more income, blogger will get more pay. Two side win. :)

Quite cool, if done correctly. Currently, due to my 1024 X 768 screen resolution, I cannot view the full ad. I saw half ad on the left and another half on the right. Hence I couldn’t figure out what the ad was about. If you switch to 800 X 600, you will see nothing. Also, the ad is not clickable, so I think the ad message should be clear i.e. visitors should be able to read the whole ad.

It’s good that someone from our country thought of such new advertising method. As everyone have said, if the pay is good, no harm doing it. Just wondering if the sponsor get the expected exposure as the blog is blocking the ad and visitors won’t know what is being advertised in most cases, especially to first-time-visitor.

I will like it better if it’s all pink. :( Looks sucky on my site 0.o
Replyhafreze August 18th, 2007
was it really applicable for any blogs..I mean..if the blog was blogging about tech..then the background also appeared about tech arr..
ReplyFriedbeef August 20th, 2007
Not for non-personal blogs. You’ll look like a complete sellout if you let your background get taken over
ReplyIrene August 21st, 2007
Oh well… If you are using a smaller resolution setting on your screen like mine… You can’t really see much of the ad at all. It’s only good for those with huge screen resolution. I think the pay can reach up to almost RM1000 per ad or at least RM500 and above.
