Who’s Misk
Misk.com is a web hosting company and like any web hosting company; they provide mandatory services like domain register, domain renewal, domain transfer and web hosting packages. On top of that, certain domain-related FAQs are required and they’ve got that so it’s cool. However that’s not really the coolest part. This is wha that really caught my attention when the page loads up.

Misk’s Domain essentials are only calling for $25/year. That’s about $2/month and that’s really cheap. Now, you probably should be wondering, hosting as low as $2/month what are the specs in the package? Here’s a run down of what you will be getting with Domain Essentials $25/year

- Setup and manage your domain
Domain Essential is suitable if..
If you are still hooked on a free hosting, it don’t hurt paying $25/year to have full control over your account. Drop that free mail, get yourself a yourname@yourdomain.com and check your email via desktop e-mail applications like Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook.
Verdict
No doubt this is really a cheap deal from Misk.com however it more suitable for average webmasters that just need a static website. If your website has high traffic loads, this is definitely not for you. Still I see a reason why I can use this. Paying $25/year for a testing site, an environment for me to experiment portals and scripts. Not bad still.

I’m using a malaysian hosting company http://www.eternalsolutions.com. They’re offering 10GB of space, unlimited email accounts, etc. for RM100/year. .com or .net is going for RM35/year. That’s pretty cheap.

It’s good to know that there are already a lot of hosting companies offering cheap hosting services online. Even the big names in web hosting industry are also trying to lower their cost down to keep up with the competition.

I have used Misk for 3 years. In 2007 I first attempted to transfer my domain from Misk, since then I have tried several times (every 6 months as per their user agreement) to have my domain transfered. It is niegh impossible to reach an actual person via their support phone number and my emails to support@misk.com are often ignored and Misk even denies recieving some of them. This is by far the worst company I have ever worked with in any respect. I strongly recommend avoiding them at all costs.

Tyler’s comment is entirely inaccurate. You can transfer your domain name away from us at any time and you do not have to wait 6 months. That’s not anywhere in our user agreement and would be very wrong. We pride ourselves on being the most reliable and most ethical registrar on the net. Tyler emailed us for the first time today and each time got responses within minutes. We have not denied a single transfer in out 11 year history. Not one. Only the admin email has the ability to decline a transfer. If they don’t, the transfer goes through anyway. As we tried to suggest to Tyler via email, what most likely happened is that he never finished the steps required by his new registrar to begin the transfer, which includes giving them the auth code, unlocking the domain, and approving the transfer at the admin email.
